Baghdad denies Iraqi newsman's family 'liquidated'
Source: AFP

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraq on Wednesday denied the massacre of the family of a journalist who accused Shiite militias of killing 11 of his relatives as they ate breakfast at his Baghdad home three days ago.

Dia al-Kawwaz, who runs an Internet news website from Amman, claimed that Shiite militiamen had stormed into his house in northern Baghdad's Al-Shaab neighbourhood on Sunday and sprayed his relatives with gunfire, killing 11 of them.

"There was no physical liquidation of any member of his family," Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told reporters on Wednesday.

Dabbagh said he had spoken to Kawwaz's mother who also denied the massacre.
