Australia row over fake leaflet
Source: BBC

Australia's ruling Liberal Party is facing accusations of race hate and dirty tricks by two of its members just days before the general election.

The party members were caught distributing bogus leaflets purporting to be from an Islamist group.

In the leaflets, the fake organisation applauds the opposition Labor Party for supporting Islamic extremists.

The Liberal party has expelled the members and said it condemns their "offensive" and "unauthorised" actions.

Several people were seen by supporters of Kevin Rudd's opposition Labor Party handing out the mock pamphlets in the Lindsay area of west Sydney.

The incident is expected to be a serious blow for Prime Minister John Howard, who is already behind in the polls for the general election on Saturday.

2. The plot thickens...
Husband of Liberal MP behind it:

Lib MP's husband admits leaflet scam

The husband of retiring Liberal MP Jackie Kelly has admitted distributing bogus campaign leaflets - now the subject of a Federal Police investigation.
...

"I also take this opportunity to apologise to other members of the community, particularly the Muslim community to whom I bear no malice for the offence caused by my actions and authorise you to make this letter public."

Ooh, I have been enjoying watching these arseholes dig their own grave these past two weeks.

3. "It was just a joke" says Jackie Kelly.
Right - very funny.

The only good thing about this is how desperate they obviously are.

5. as well as ....
the actual candidates husband as well.

Libs say wives 'knew nothing'

THE husbands of Lindsay Liberal candidate Karen Chijoff and retiring MP Jackie Kelly have admitted roles in a bogus flyer but say their wives knew nothing.

The leaflets purport to be from a fictitious Muslim group - the Islamic Australia Federation - welcoming Labor support for construction of a controversial mosque in St Marys and for the convicted Bali bombers.

In developments this afternoon on the extraordinary act by Liberals to distribute the fake Labor Party pamphlet linking the ALP, Muslims, and terrorists:

* THE husbands of Liberal candidate Karen Chijoff quit the party after admitting his role in a bogus leaflet in the marginal Sydney seat of Lindsay. His written apology follows that today of jackie Kelly's husband Gary Clark;

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22803570-5013871,00.html

This may be the Latham handshake from last time around. No one is letting it go and the performance of the Liberal kool-aiders at the Press Club was pretty appalling.

It is just getting too exciting over here at the moment. Everybody everywhere is predicting Labor to win with anything up to a 25 seat majority. Todays Newspoll is back to 55-45 and in some capital cities 57-43. If this holds not only does he lose government, he will lose his seat as well. And Turnbull.

Rudd really is doing well. (touch wood) He is looking and sounding every part the next Prime Minister of Australia. Two more sleeps to go.

Peace

6. The usual disclaimers:
"Our wives knew nothing" (from Gary Clarke and Greg Chijoff)
"I don't know these people" (Andrew Robb last night on Lateline)
"I know nothing" (John Howard)
"I categorically deny distributing any unauthorised material" (Jeff Egan, but he doesn't deny that he
was the "mastermind" behind it).

But the best quote is from the Chaser team to Jackie Kelly: "Come and work for us".

7. John Howard's apology to Muslims is an insult in itself. Anyone knows he'd stab anyone in the back
if he could benefit, and people who are unpopular politically are precious treasures to politicians. They get to kick them around for free, even congratulated for their efforts.

The sooner we lose the right-wing reactionaries who live to hate, the better off the entire world will be.

Look at the crap offered by the clown's wife at the "Liberal" website. It features this feast for drooling idiots:

Ooooh! Labor bosses! Run away, children! Run for your lives!

Bali bomber warns: Australia is next

ONE of the key Bali Bombers has issued a chilling warning from his death row prison cell, warning Australia "will be down next year".

Imam Samudra and two of his cohorts on death row for their role in the 2002 bombings were yesterday defiant, unapologetic and welcoming of their forthcoming executions as they were visited in their island jail by some of their family members.

Samudra, the so-called field commander of the Bali bombers, took the opportunity to hold a "press conference" to correct what he said was misinformation.

He had never said he was sorry about the bombing, he was only sorry that Muslims died, he said.

15. When you can't win legitimately
I guess it's time to haul out the dirty tricks.

And due to the unfortuante naming of political parties in Australia, we're sure to hear about those cheating liberals trying to steal another election.
