Parade treaty for vets in war dispute
Source: Rocky Mountain News

Veterans for Peace will be allowed in Denver's Veteran's Day Parade on Saturday, after the city brokered an agreement between veterans for and against the Iraq war.

. . .

Until the eleventh-hour agreement, Veterans for Peace were planning to march alongside, on the sidewalk, distributing brochures protesting their exclusion from the official parade.

"We'll carry our banners. I'm sure some folks will have signs saying 'Stop the War Now,'" Bessinger said. "We never had any desire to disrupt the parade. We just wanted to express our views on war and peace. And now we can."

1. Good news. Veterans should not be banned from a Veterans Day parade.

5. "Why not? You are either for republicon chickenhawk fascism, or against it." - Commander AWOL

"I mean, we republicon homelander anti-American fascists can love a guy like Dickie Cheney with five (5) military deferments precisely because he supports the flow of tax dollars to our elite War Profiteering Corporations. But these veterans -- these men and women who have actually served in a war zone -- have no right, no standing to oppose our republicon homelander fascist money making. They could ruin our happy times, and stuff."

2. Excluding Veterans from a Veteran's Day Parade
(Or attempting to.) Just another result of conservative values.

6. Vets for Peace will be marching in the Phoenix Veteran's Day Parade!!!
Third year! I march along with my BF (Vietnam Vet). We try to be on our "best behavior" - no signs, no t-shirts with slogans, just banners and flags (US, peace signs, VFP banner). We walk alongside a flag draped coffin. This year we will include a cart with 104 pairs of boots for the 104 Arizonans killed in Iraq so far. This might be pushing the envelope, we'll see.

The reactions of the on-lookers is interesting. Lots of applause and peace signs, more than I ever expected. Also some "one finger salutes". For the most part those that disagree stand silently and just leer.
