4. The biggest foreign policy screwup in US history
and it means nothing the the sheeple. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR COUNTRY! 10,000 dead people, 300 billion wasted, swollen ranks of terrorists, even the British hate bush* and it simply doesn't matter. As long as we get our tax cuts.

20. This is definitely a huge screwup
But it still takes a back seat to the phony Tonkin Gulf incident which was the justification for the Vietnam war.

5. Don't you think....
We need to hold accountable more than just * and his buddies?

Congress voted to send our troops over there and start a war because Sadam was going to GET US.

It's time to evict some of those people who voted for political expediency - campaigned on the 'I voted with President Bush' theme and are now ducking and running (or running for President).

Seems most of those voted for NCLB and are now telling us how terrible it is.

Maybe we need new people in Washington who don't just follow the leader....especially when the leader is a liar!!!

16. Yes…and No…
Congress based it’s votes largely on the “cooked” intel provided by the cooks….if they are guilty, they are guilty of rubber-stamping a dictatorial regime…thus, dereliction of office. One reason for which I’m no longer a “registered” Democract.

6. *sigh* "WMD" is just SO 2003...
Or, as Ron Zeigler (late of Richard Nixon's WH) would put it, "That statement is inoperative."

THIS year's Operative Statement (tm) is that SH was a very, very bad man and we did it to free the Iraqi people from his brutal rule and bring democracy to the country. Ya gotta be fast to keep up with the excuses! :-)

7. Report criticizes administration's assessments of Iraq dangers
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 02:41 PM by muchacho
HELLO...note to Democratic operatives - TALKING POINTS HERE!!!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Colin Powell acknowledged Thursday that he saw no "smoking gun, concrete evidence" of ties between Saddam Hussein and the al-Qaeda terror network, but insisted that Iraq had dangerous weapons and needed to be disarmed by force.
Speaking at a State Department news conference, Powell openly disagreed with a private think tank report which maintained that Iraq was not an imminent threat to the United States. And the secretary defended the case he made before the United Nations for a U.S.-led war to force Saddam from power.

"My presentation ... made it clear that we had seen some links and connections to terrorists organizations over time," Powell said. "I have not seen smoking gun, concrete evidence about the connection, but I do believe the connections existed."

Three experts at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said in a report Thursday that the Bush administration systematically misrepresented a weapons threat from Iraq, and U.S. strategy should be revised to eliminate the policy of unilateral preventive war.

"It is unlikely that Iraq could have destroyed, hidden or sent out of the country the hundreds of tons of chemical and biological weapons, dozens of Scud missiles and facilities engaged in the ongoing production of chemical and biological weapons that officials claimed were present without the United States detecting some sign of this activity," said the report by Jessica T. Mathews, Joseph Cirincione and George Perkovich.

22. Callin' Powell A Liar
Broadcast on 60 Minutes II, Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Greg Thielmann tells Correspondent Scott Pelley that at the time of Powell’s speech, Iraq didn’t pose an imminent threat to anyone – not even its own neighbors. “…I think my conclusion now is that it’s probably one of the low points in his long distinguished service to the nation,” says Thielmann.

Pelley’s report will be broadcast on 60 Minutes II, Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

“They knew what they wanted the intelligence to show. They were really blind and deaf to any kind of countervailing information the intelligence community would produce. I would assign some blame to the intelligence community and most of the blame to the senior administration officials.”

Steve Allinson and a dozen other U.N. inspectors in Iraq also watched Powell’s speech. “Various people would laugh at various times because the information he was presenting was just, you know, didn't mean anything -- had no meaning,” says Allinson.

Pelley asks, “When the Secretary finished the speech, you and the other inspectors turned to each other and said what?” Allinson responds, “’They have nothing.’”

Allinson gives Pelley several examples of why he believes Iraq didn’t have weapons of mass destruction. One time, he was sent to find decontamination vehicles that turned out to be fire trucks. Another time, a satellite spotted what they thought were trucks used for biological weapons.

“We were told we were going to the site to look for refrigerated trucks specifically linked to biological agents,” Allinson tells Pelley. “…We found seven or eight , I think, in total, and they had cobwebs in them. Some samples were taken and nothing was found.”

12. Oh well
What's a small war amongst friends? Now we don't have to worry about Saddam nuking us in 2010. And besides he was a very bad man and we didn't like him and I bet he said bad things about GWB's daddy.

19. NPR's "All Things Considered" ran a segment on it
And they just called Carnegie a "think tank", no adjective.

If commercial mainstream news sources are whores, NPR is more like a call girl.

23. This story was on page 5
of my local rag, but NO mention that we are pulling our inspection teams out (which proves it is true). Surprisingly enough the Blackhawk down story was page 1 bottom, but the headline was interesting "Copter shot down; 9 Soldiers Die". At first glance one might not notice that it was another American aircraft. Is it just me?

And right next to the Carnegie story, a sidebar story about Colin Powell, desparately backpedalling.

25. How Faux Spun, uh, BURIED These Stories
After hearing MSRNC's Andrea MITCHELL report on POWELL's "admission" that there were NO Iraq-Al Qaeda connections, PLUS the report that there were NO WMD AND that KAY is quitting "WITHOUT ISSUING A FINAL REPORT," I moseyed over to Faux to see how they would spin these items. HAH!---they didn't mention these items at all, since of course Britanney is MUCH more important. But then there WAS spin, a diversion, which was THIS topic, about the 1,000 new jobs. The Steve DOOZY clown, who has to suffer the indignity of doing the weather after his hosting job is over, at first said (LIED) that the (unemployment rate?) was the lowest in ELEVEN years, which would of course completely obliterate all of the CLINTON years, but then he had to correct himself and say it was ONE year. Then their other Faux employee from another show said that these 1,000 jobs was a misleading number because SELF-employment is not counted, people who start their own businesses, such that REALLY, the number of new jobs for Shrub is ONE MILLION. Can there be any more documentation of how Faux keeps its loyal wingnuts plausibly ignorant?
