GOP Moves to Censure Stark
Source: MSNBC

House Republican leader John Boehner just stood up on the House floor to put forward a motion to censure Rep. Pete Stark (D) over the congressman's "heads blown off for the president's amusement" remark on the House floor last week.

Democrats will move to table -- or kill -- the motion. They will likely succeed. A vote is being taken on the tabling motion now.

11. WE don't do that shit. It's just NOT done.
If there's to be any censuring (and what Stark said was simply INTEMPERATE, not a censuring offense--hell, if he'd said it on the steps, instead of in the chamber, everyone woulda said "Right on, mon frere!") it should be initiated by the party of the offender.

This is GOP pickyshit, a desperate ploy to keep the mouth breathing base motivated. Reprehensible. Craven.

On the bright side, the fact that the GOP would TAKE this step is in itself indicative of how very desperate they are. By their actions we shall know them.

12. It's also how they get the conversation away from themselves and
their support of the war and back to slamming Dems. And Pelosi fell for it when she should have been lauding Stark for telling the truth.

17. Yep. But here's how to play it--they say STARK, you say RUDY PEDOPHILE PRIEST!!!
Fuck 'em--let's get down in that mud. It's good for the complexion every once in a blue moon!

I cannot blame Pelosi, though, for wagging a finger. He broke the rules of decorum. Like I said, if he'd said it on the steps, outside the chamber, on Meet The Press, well BRAVO. But he was intemperate in the chamber. We know better.

It doesn't deserve the level of attention it is receiving, this failure of decorum, but the GOP keep flogging it for obvious reasons.

So, one more time:

GOP: STARK!!!

DEMS: RUDY PEDOPHILE PRIEST!!!!!!!

Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 10:10 AM by Bluzmann57
There are a lot of other things to worry about then censuring Mr. Stark, or Moveon, or anything else like that. I hope Boehner's opponent points this out in the next election cycle. I hope all Dems everywhere point out the waste of time and money the gop is doing. When people see how much of their (our) money is being wasted, it hits close to home and I believe it will help Dems.

When are they going to censure Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter or Glen Beck? Hypocrites, every last one of 'em.

14. I'd send an email to every republican in the house and say how
partisan and time wasting they are. But if you go to the house site to get their email address, make sure you type in a fictional home address that is in their district, because the email won't go thru unless you do. I usually go to the reps site, find out where they live, then find an address and click on to send the email.

I have an email I have saved where I add these and use for further reference.

16. Naomi Wolfs' : targeting key officials
some are getting lost in the details, while the bigger picture is a hell of a lot scarier.

We can not allow censuring of free speech. No matter what their political affiliation is. We are all Americans first.

A closed society doesn't care which side you fall on.

Perhaps the congress people on the right can amend their censure motion to include at least two senators ... just an idea. At least Rep. Stark used his mouth to communicate what a lot of American believe and not use his mouth for less important activities.

19. No more censuring Dems by GOP until they censure fellow conservatives
Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 10:45 AM by JaneQPublic
When are the GOP lawmakers going to stand up and vote to censure Ann Coulter for her remark about Jews "perfecting" themselves by becoming Christians?

Or censure Rush Limbaugh for stating that soldiers in Iraq who oppose the war are "phony soldiers"?

Or censure O'Reilly for his racist remarks about the African American restaurant in NYC?

Or censure Rep. Boehner's outrageous remark that the deaths of American soldiers were "a small price to pay" to achieve Bush's agenda in Iraq?

Hell, the GOP lawmakers whine everytime a Dem shows the least little backbone and demand other Dems censure/condemn/repudiate/etc. And half the time, Dem lawmakers are fools enough to go along with it, as with the big stink about the moveon.com ad.

The GOP congressmen are like a bunch of schoolyard bullies who twist other kids' arms behind their back until they scream "Uncle!" It's about time the Dems tell them to sit down and shut the fuck up!

20. The real censure may come at the polls....
The real censure, of the Republican Party, may come at the polls this year and next. And possibly the censure will include those Democrats who would support this monster in the White House. Bush is a monster. Far worse than Hitler. And those who continue to support him, and sitting silently by out of a sense of political correctness is supporting him, are worse than the Nazis. That includes Madame Speaker. Most of all Madame Speaker. Shut the government down if need be. Put a stop to this and send them all to Nuremberg.

23. this is freeking crazy
We hold off impeaching or even censuring the President for LYING US INTO A WAR where 3,500 troops have died. Stark probably shouldn't have said what he said, but good God, this is totally unfair and totally unproductive. The problem is we are in a war for no reason and can't get out of it. The problem is not that people are saying bad things about it.

25. The Democratic congress...
... is the lamest group of butt licking, ass covering simpering losers I have ever seen.

They get played at EVERY TURN, they roll over and play dead at every opportunity.

I hope half of them lose their seats. They don't deserved them, they are an utter disgrace to the nation and the party.
