Both Fastows trying to obtain plea deals (Enron)
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/topstory/2339403

Former Enron Chief Financial Officer Andrew Fastow and his wife, Lea, are negotiating plea bargains that could send the once high-flying couple to federal prison.

Federal prosecutors are discussing a 10-year sentence for Andrew Fastow, and the plea bargain offered to Lea Fastow in November for a five-month term is back on the table, sources close to the case told the Houston Chronicle.

But the deals could still collapse, as Lea Fastow's did in November. Two federal judges, prosecutors and the defendants all must agree on the details for a plea to be finalized.

One of Andrew Fastow's San Francisco lawyers, Jan Little, was scheduled to arrive in Houston Tuesday night, and his lead lawyer, John Keker, is due here today. Enron Task Force Director Leslie Caldwell, who has spent little time in Houston in recent months, was at the Bob Casey Federal Courthouse downtown Tuesday.

1. A little pre-election posturing re: corporate crime?
I find it hard to believe it will go very far. I don't suppose Kenny-boy is in any danger. I would be glad to be proven wrong.

2. depends on how hot the witch-hunt gets....
The BFEE will throw anyone to the wolves if necessary, and I'll bet Poppy would even toss junior into the flames to protect his investments. Still, I suspect you're right-- deal's will be cut and the chain of perps will quietly end before it gets too close, and junior will add "tough on corporate crime" to his campaign list of achievements.

4. Don't leave out Skillings.
Make the Fastows rat him out as well. I'd also want to know what really happened to that one exec Baxter. I tend to have my doubts about suicide as a cause of death.
