US Congressman owned home with another man, took DC tax deduction while voting in NC

Congressman Patrick T. McHenry (R-NC), right, purchased a residence in Washington, DC's Capital Hill neighborhood with another man, PageOneQ has learned. While he owned the home, McHenry and co-owner Scott G. Stewart, claimed eligibility for the District of Columbia's Homestead Tax Deduction, a tax reduction program to encourage homeownership and residence in DC. At the same time McHenry was registered to vote, and did so, in Gaston County, North Carolina.

According to records obtained from the Washington, DC Recorder of Deeds, left (click to enlarge), McHenry, who was first elected to Congress in 2004, and Stewart owned the three bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home from February 2001 to January 2002. The house is located at 1360 D Street, SE, in a neighborhood near the US Capitol.

The homestead deduction is probably improper for McHenry because such deductions are usually limited to primary residences.

Sharing the ownership with another of the same gender is by itself meaningless.

I don't know DC's law therefore I wrote usually because it may only be necessary for one of the owners to use it as a principal residence, rather than all. I doubt it. Calling it a 'clear scandal' the first time admits to that doubt.

Isn't there a connection between Congressman McHenry and the gay porn producer murder in Pennsylvania? There was some previous discussion of whether or not he was involved in the DC escort business and the use of under-aged gay porn star Brent Carrigan. It is becoming clearer that McHenry is hiding something in the closet, perhaps himself and a great story if the news media was interested.

Jennifer Gorski, Kathleen Kirst and Youmna Salameh alleged in affidavits that Stewart made frequent unwanted sexual advances and regularly spoke obscenely to and about female employees. They also alleged Stewart authorized the use of several thousand dollars in GOP funds to pay for his and others’ personal expenses, such as cellular telephone bills, plane tickets and campaign mailings.

Gorski was an office manager who was fired by Stewart last year. Kirst was an intern in 1999. Salameh worked at another RNC-affiliated organization next door to the college Republicans.

Their accusations did not result in Stewart’s ouster at a college Republicans meeting in New Orleans in mid-November, so they took their sworn statements to the Republican National Committee in January.

In mid-February, the RNC promised prompt action but then postponed the case by referring its six-week inquiry to the law firm.

The College Republican National Committee has raised $6.3 million this year through an aggressive and misleading fund-raising campaign that collected money from senior citizens who thought they were giving to the election efforts of President Bush and other top Republicans.Many of the top donors were in their 80s and 90s. The donors wrote checks - sometimes hundreds and, in at least one case, totaling more than $100,000 - to groups with official sounding-names such as “Republican Headquarters 2004,” “Republican Elections Committee” and the “National Republican Campaign Fund.”

But all of those groups, according to the small print on the letters, were simply projects of the College Republicans, who collected all of the checks.

And little of the money went to election efforts.

Of the money spent by the group this year, nearly 90 percent went to direct-mail vendors and postage expenses, according to records filed with the Internal Revenue Service.

Some of the elderly donors, meanwhile, wound up bouncing checks and emptying their bank accounts.

On edit: They do make a cute couple...oh and one thing noticeably absent from McHenry's biography...any mention of Marriage (other than banning it for gay people)...so I assume he is single. Any other married republican touts it loud and clear on their website...The other thing is a lack of attendance in any society and cultural events...which ussually show up in Google pics...I guess he is a homebody...you know you go to charity fund raising dinner with a "girl friend". let me point out that McHenry's district includes (in addition to small bits of Gaston County) most or all of Cleveland, Rutherford, Lincoln, Catawba, Caldwell, Avery, and Mitchell counties, as well as a swatch of Iredell.

Of course, western North Carolina may have more than its fair share of wingnut yahoos -- but not everyone is proud to have them as neighbors: I have met competent and hardworking activists from Lenoir, Morganton, Hickory, and Mooresville, and I am quite sure they do not exhaust the good people resident in the district.

I do not know that McHenry will fall in 08 but I can see no absolutely advantage to your assumption that even contemplating the possibility is pointless.

“Oh, will you stop with the rats,” said the annoyed fourth roommate, Representative George Miller of California. He owns the house and is sensitive to any suggestion that he harbors pestilence. It’s dicey enough that he harbors politicians.

Think MTV’s “Real World” with a slovenly cast of Democratic power brokers. While Washington may have more than its share of crash pads for policy-debating workaholics, few, if any, have sheltered a quorum as powerful as this one. About a quarter-mile southeast of the Capitol, the inelegantly decorated two-bedroom house has become an unlikely center of influence in Washington’s changing power grid. It is home to the second- and third-ranking senators in the new Democratic majority (Mr. Durbin, the majority whip, and Mr. Schumer, the vice chairman of the Democratic caucus) and the chairman of the House Democratic Policy Committee (Mr. Miller).
