Arrests at Brussels Islam protest
Source: BBC

Police in the Belgian capital, Brussels, have arrested two far-right political leaders at a protest against the "Islamisation of Europe".

Police clashed with some of the 200 demonstrators and dozens more people were reported to have been arrested.

The mayor of Brussels had banned the protest, held on the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the US.

Frank Vanhecke and Filip Dewinter of the Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) party were arrested.

2. GREAT news! Filip DeWinter is a disgusting nazi in disguise.
And I don't use that word in the way we sometimes say Bush & co. are behaving like nazi's, but DeWinter actually promotes racist, nationalistic policy which is extremely hostile toward immigrants. He used to be leader of 'Vlaams Blok' ('Flemish Quarter'), which was forbidden by a federal judge for being openly racist, so DeWinter 'started a new party', which is exactly the same party with only another name.

But I fear that his arrest will only gather more supporters for him and his party. He's always playing the role of the underdog ("they all are mean to me, waaaaah!") which gets him lots of support. In recent elections, he gathered 1/3 of all Flemish votes (NOT 1/3 of all BELGIAN votes). Currently, all other parties have, since 10-15 years, a 'cordon sanitaire' against him, which means they refuse to even talk to him. This has gathered him also a lot of support.

DeWinter's policies are dangerous and are similar to Germany 1933.

5. Urgh!!!! (that they exist at all, not that they've been arrested)

I know that they have a few members in the EU parliament, and belong to the same far-right group there that also includes LePen's party, some Romanian far-righties, and a few others including Mussolini's granddaughter. It's depressing that such people can still get votes.
