Mikhail Saakashvili wins Georgian election in landslide
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 11:21 AM by mobuto
No article yet, but CNN International is reporting that the polls have just closed (11am Eastern, 1600 GMT) and NGO election monitors are reporting no problems. Those NGO's early exit polls show Mikhail Saakashvili winning with 88.6% of the vote. Saakashvili was the leading political opponent of Edouard Shervadnaze who was recently forced out of office in a popular uprising.

Georgia economy has largely collapsed since the fall of the Soviet Union, as it faces two break-away provinces and the competing strategic ambitions of Russia and the United States.

2. this is why neo-cons fear people like George Soros
this is the 2nd successful peaceful coup he has been involoved in. They fear he might pull off such a thing here if the election were stolen again.
