CIA 'launches Facebook for spies'
Source: BBC

The CIA is to open a communications tool for its staff, modelled on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, the Financial Times reports.

The project, known as A-Space, aims to improve the way that intelligence agents communicate, it said.

Officials believe that the online workplace will allow staff to better analyse information together.

However to ease fears of undercover workers having their cover blown, participation will be voluntary.

1. Original FT article

Spies and teenagers normally have little in common but that is about to change as America’s intelligence agencies prepare to launch “A-Space”, an internal communications tool modelled on the popular social networking sites, Facebook and MySpace.

The Director of National Intelligence will open the site to the entire intelligence community in December. The move is the latest part of an ongoing effort to transform the analytical business following the failure to detect the 9/11 terrorist attacks or find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Thomas Fingar, the deputy director of national intelligence for analysis, believes the common workspace – a kind of “MySpace for analysts” – will generate better analysis by breaking down firewalls across the traditionally stove-piped intelligence community. He says the technology can also help process increasing amounts of information where the number of analysts is limited.

3. The way our government protects online data, I would be more than a little anxious
about putting my information on a tool like that as an undercover spy.

5. Please consider - this may be a diversion. There is a Rumsfeld quote
Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 08:10 AM by higher class
out there somewhere about the 'government' wanting to (or planning to) operate a second internet for their purposes. Since we have to live with the propaganda and lies coming from these people while at the same time try to see through and sort it - we should consider that if they are doing something that they are releasing information about - something else is really going on - something that they're keeping secret. They operate for themselves while using our tax money to do it - for their need to control us, to spit on Congress and what we thought was our Constitution, to avoid accountability for themselves and their corporate and foundation friends, and to keep working toward complete control of the earth and sky.

A second internet could be one possibility and what better way to diffuse, divert, distract, disorientate what is really going on. All that stolen money is being reworked - for them. Space - isn't that cute - even the government is doing a Space.

Rumsfeld said the second internet would allow better communications between all branches of intelligence.

This Space is said to allow better communications between all branches of intelligence.

Then, remember, all branches of intelligence includes Echelon which means UK, Canada, NZ, Australia (and Israel?).
