Poll: Majority mistrustful of upcoming Iraq report
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A majority of Americans don't trust the upcoming report by the Army's top commander in Iraq on the progress of the war and even if they did, it wouldn't change their mind, according to a new poll.

But according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Thursday, 53 percent of people polled said they suspect that the military assessment of the situation will try to make it sound better than it actually is. Forty-three percent said they do trust the report.

Another interesting thing about the poll, Holland said, is that it indicates that about half of those surveyed -- 47 percent -- feel that the military is making progress in Iraq, although slightly more -- 49 percent -- do not.

The poll indicates that most of America's mind is made up about the war -- 72 percent said the report will have no effect on their view of the war.

Of those opposed to the war, 47 percent said Petreaus' report could not change their mind while 17 percent said it could.

2. They need to redo the poll
Now that Bush said Petraeus and Crocker won't testify publicly to Congress and that the report is going to be written by the WH with input from everyone and their brother.

I bet that 43% trust rate drops to single digits.

He's going to continue doing what he want to do, congress will continue giving him whatever he wants and the american people will obediently go back to watching their sports and reality shows.

5. Honestly now

This sort of scurrilous reporting is SO typical of the liberal media. Really, has Our Great Leader ever given us any reason to doubt His Great Judgment?

He is the deicder, you know.

NEW YORK Despite rising criticism from some quarters, Gen. David Petraeus appears to command considerable respect from the average American, a new Gallup poll reveals, booosting the chances that his much-publicized September report on the "surge" will be treated as credible by most.

8. But the broader point is
If the lame duck gains strength enough from this report to bash Democrats over the head with the you are on the wrong side of history mantra we may find that 01OCT brings a fresh checkbook for this fiasco with continued Democratic support...

Our leadership needs to say "Regardless of what Patreaus says in SEP we view this surge as a complete failure and therefore want immediate withdraw of our troops from this quagmire.

Imagine Patreaus gives his report... Democratic support for withdraw buckles... Bush skates out his remaining days with up and down days in Iraq and no end to this misery. The Democrats win in NOV new Democratic President is left with the whole mess to clean up...

This is the worst case scenario because the Pubbies with the corporate media whores will bash the Democratic President with whatever decision they make... That can lead to nothing but more division in this country.....

and that is my view with rose colored glasses on...
