Maliki: US pull-out timetable impossible

Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has said that setting a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq is not possible.

"Anything specific I cannot give, neither us nor the US government can set up a timetable," ABC News quoted Maliki as saying in an interview with the network's correspondent in Baghdad.

Maliki has previously insisted that Iraqi security forces were ready to take over security from US troops by this summer, but told ABC News he would not rule out US troops being in Iraq in five years time.

5. oh yes, absolutely... but it's one thing to trash your own house
it's something altogether different to go into someone else's house and trash it as well.

3. Truly. Whoda thunk one day we'd see the US take marching orders from a foreign leader.
Of course I guess we've been the Saudi's lap dog for years.

4. "We're ready to take over" to "Timetable impossible"
Kinda makes you wonder what sort of phone traffic you might discover if ordinary Americans had access to the super-secret spying methods the Bush administration has arrogated to itself. Was al-Maliki bribed or threatened?

7. Oh, of course he was told.
How obvious can things get? When Al Maliki says a few weeks ago, "The US can leave anytime it wants". General chaos. Quick disclaimers. Depty Admin. assistant in Baghdad: "Oh, well he just meant we can STAY as long as we want".

Sure.

Of course Maliki was told, begged bribed, threatened, they promised him anything but please don't say anything about a time table. UJust keep things open-ended, forever.

"Ok?"
