Bush Raps Democrats on Spending

By JENNIFER LOVEN
The Associated Press
Thursday, August 2, 2007; 2:40 PM

WASHINGTON -- President Bush ridiculed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday _though not by name _ for saying that the $22 billion that separates congressional Democrats from the White House on spending bills is a "very small difference."

"Only in Washington can $22 billion be called a `very small difference,'" Bush said after meeting with his Cabinet. "That's a lot of money _ even for career politicians in Washington."

Bush's tough talk in the steamy Rose Garden was his latest attempt to frame his side of the debate with the Democratic-led Congress over a dozen spending measures needed to fund federal operations after the current fiscal year ends on Sept. 30.

The president knocked Democratic leaders for planning to send Congress into its summer recess for a month starting this weekend without sending him a single one of the bills.

I may have my differences with Pelosi, but Bush knocking her really boils me!

My guess is she does; the "Thank you, sir, may I have another?" wing of the party tends to respond that way.

10. So now $22 Billion is a lot?
But it was perfectly acceptable to lose $9 billion as a rounding error in Iraq?

And to defund the guy tracking it down?

2. he dines with her, then disses her:

....Pelosi, D-Calif., was at the White House on Wednesday to meet with Bush on the spending bills and other matters. Afterward, she said Democrats want to work with the president "to negotiate the very small difference between Democrats and Republicans on these appropriations bills."

Bush singled out this line of hers, though in an attempt to keep the temperature from rising too high in the debate he did not use her name. Pelosi and her husband dined privately at the White House earlier this week with the president and his wife.

But while Democrats try to downplay the figure the two sides are fighting over, Bush's tactic has been to try to make it seem as large as possible. He said it would amount to $205 billion over five years, which would average out to $1,300 in additional _ unnecessary, in his view _ spending per second.

6. Pelosi's reaping what she sows
This is what happens when you try to negotiate with monsters. Why Pelosi is too blind to see that is beyond me.

8. One of the reasons the Democrats were voted into power last November
One of the reasons the Democrats were voted into power last November is that Bush, through his irresponsible fiscal policies, squandered all the black ink that was put on the budget during the Clinton years and turned it red.

If there's anything more irresponsible than tax-and-spend, it's borrow-and-spend. Sooner or later the bill comes due and there's Hell to pay.

9. 22 billion is about 1 percent of the federal budget
Or about 2 months of what it costs for Bush to play war with his toys in Iraq.
