Feinstein Votes with Republicans on Southwick
Source: Houston Chronicle

COURT NOMINATIONS

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 10-9 to advance Bush's nomination of Leslie Southwick to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to the full Senate for a vote. Southwick's nomination had been controversial because some Democrats were concerned that his writings were racially insensitive. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., voted with the Republicans.

4. Still, what's going on with the Bay Area legislators?
And Diane is from SF, even if she is a senator. She and Nancy, in particular, seem to be moving to the right. (And, yes I know that Diane is a "conservative" for SF -- I lived there when she was mayor, and I never voted for her, even against Quentin Kopp.)

6. She is more like Lieberman every day.
Maybe a Democrat will challenge her in the primary. Like that would help.

8. She was just re-elected in 2006.
We have her until 2012.
I would not vote for her in either the primary or the general election.
I was hoping that someone like Giramendi(?) would have run against her, because I think the Dems. in CA. are fed up with her Corp./Husbands' company voting record.

2. I just wonder what the hell her problem is lately, anyway.
She's been siding with the Republicans more and more, it seems. With the likes of her and Liebermann, the GOP really is still the majority! :(

She suffers accusations of steering noncompetitive military contracts to people like her husband

Senator exits MILCON following Metro exposé, vet-care scandal

By Peter Byrne

SEN. Dianne Feinstein has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. As previously and extensively reviewed in these pages, Feinstein was chairperson and ranking member of MILCON for six years, during which time she had a conflict of interest due to her husband Richard C. Blum's ownership of two major defense contractors, who were awarded billions of dollars for military construction projects approved by Feinstein.

As MILCON leader, Feinstein relished the details of military construction, even micromanaging one project at the level of its sewer design. She regularly took junkets to military bases around the world to inspect construction projects, some of which were contracted to her husband's companies, Perini Corp. and URS Corp.

3. No shock to me, she may as well move her chair over AND
sit with LIEberman.

She needs to be sent home with Pelosi, would that be a huge improvement.

9. Once again, a DLC member snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.
The DLC misses few opportunities to insure victory for republicans in close votes.

The DLC is a festering, malignant cancer within the Democratic Party.

13. Triangulation...
Good example of triangulation and why progressives can't move
forward. We need to get rid of not only Republicans but many
turncoat Democrats.

10. Good for her! This could be a good strategic move.
Why?

1) It gives ALL the Senators the chance to debate this person in a more public forum,

2) It eliminates another ReThuglican Propaganda, sorry, "talking point" of this person "...not getting an 'Up or Down' vote..."

3) it puts ALL of the Senators on record for this vote, not just 19 Senators...

I'm not going to condemn her until I see how this one plays out, let's see what she (and Lieberman) does in the full Senate vote.

18. Senate will confirm Leslie Southwick 51-49. Lieberman will vote with GOP!
DiFi is well on her path to the Dark Side, and she just endorsed Hillary for President, the same Hillary that said today that she favors first use of atomic weapons.

16. I wonder if her vote was to keep Southwick from being appointed during the recess?
Or is Biden convening the Senate every 10 days etc.?

20. More good points!
People here have lately been much too eager to throw some very good Democrats overboard, I think I'll wait to see if this was a strategic move and how it all plays out before condemning her.

I only DREAM that I had a Democrat as good as Sen. Dianne Feinstein to vote for, just to have ANY Democratic Senator or Representative in Congress would be GREAT! Hell, just to have an un-Rigged election would be awesome!

I get the feeling that a lot of these "Feinstein's a turn-coat" people here have completely forgotten that former Georgia Democratic Senator Max Cleland frequently voted with "the Dark side," but I guess that's O.K. now because he had his last election stolen by the ReThugs and Diebold Corp (Yes, it did happen, I'm not implying it didn't).

17. Would it be safe to say fifty percent of the Democrats are Corporate WHORES.
While eighty percent of the Republicans are Corporate WHORES. IMHO that is pretty close to a one party system, the Corporate WHORE Party. CWH, can we get a list of all the Democrats and Republicans we know that are in the CWH.
