AP Poll: Public gives Congress low marks
Source: Seattle Post-Intelligencer

WASHINGTON -- In the eyes of the public, Congress is doing even worse than the president.

Public satisfaction with the job lawmakers are doing has fallen 11 points since May, to 24 percent, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll. That's lower than for President Bush, who hasn't fared well lately, either.

Bush has been taking heat over the Iraq war, his decision to spare a former top vice presidential aide from going to prison and his desire for an overhaul of immigration laws that critics said would give a free pass to illegal immigrants. His job approval rating in the AP-Ipsos survey remained virtually unchanged at 33 percent.

The 24 percent approval rating for Congress matched its previous low, which came in June 2006, five months before Democrats won control of the House and Senate due to public discontent with the job Republicans were doing. Just two months ago, 35 percent of the public approved of Congress' work.

Apparently, the slide in Congressional approval over the last two months has come from Democrats. From the article: "Approval among Democrats fell 21 points, from 48 percent in May to 27 percent. It remained low among Republicans, at 20 percent, and has not changed significantly in the past two months."

"They don't approve of anything he does," Theresa Holsten, 55, a Republican and unemployed resident of Lawton, Okla., said of Congress. "He can't do anything right, according to what some people say. It irritates the living daylights out of me."

a republican. ok. teresa: it's not that "some people say" (the favorite republican construction) he 'can't do anything right', it's that he HASN'T done anything right. dear, dear teresa is pining for the 'rubber stamp' days.

they've lost approval percentages because they didn't stop the war and they won't impeach. they get moving on that, then only teresa will be unhappy.

3. Criminal Bush,
the Corrupt Republicans, and some duped Democrats have got
everything so screwed up in America, the ignorant and/or
stupid Americans don't know whether they are coming or going.
Criminal Bush and the Corporate Fascist (the military
industrial complex) have destroyed government service (both
military and public), the courts i.e. the Supreme Kangaroo
Court, and the free press (MSM) in order to enrich themselves
at the expense of America. These mostly Republican traitors
have bought off Congress (the Criminal Republican Tom Delay
and K Street bribery) and brought America to the brink. If
Americans do not wake up and act to save the Constitution, the
200 plus years experiment will be over.

4. Ever ask yourselves, WHY?
After the first week of the opening of the House and Senate with Pelosi and Reid in charge it was all good news coming from the media....Now fast forward about 3 weeks and take note the media was not reporting anything positive from both Houses....It was all negative....Did the media inform the public the Dems in both Houses were trying to take care of the 11 funding bills for the fiscal year 2007 the republicans left them? NO! Did the media talk about all the over sight hearings the Dems were holding concerning Iraq and the contracts awarded? NO! It was all negative reporting and lumping both into one big pot....

I blame the leadership in both Houses for not getting out in front of all this and telling and explaining what was going on in the House and the Senate...But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The dems still act as though they are in the minority and are so afraid to speak....I would say we have a bunch of pink wearing dems in tutu's trying to run the congress.....A damn shame....

I do thank you
Ben David

5. This concurs with what I'm picking up on the ground - people are mad
as hell with the ineffectual democrats -- they feel very betrayed. As a member of the party, I'm always being asked - "What wrong with the democrats? Why don't they act? They sent the dems to congress to oppose this asshole president and they're doing little or nothing . They are perceived as sitting on their hands as the little dictator goes on with his power grabs. Personally I'm more frightened than ever -- there seems to be nothing in the way of Bush/Cheney's relentless pursuit of power. It's going to have to be up to WE THE PEOPLE!
