Hillary speaks up on outsourcing
Source: chennaionline

Seattle, July 7: Trying to blunt criticism over her links with Indian Americans, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has said her countrymen's fears on outsourcing must be allayed to avert possible political and economic fall-out.

"If the standard of living and the quality of life falls in reality and in perception and in any way decreases in the US, our bilateral cooperation and partnerships could very well suffer in the long run," Hillary said.

"Workers in the US are concerned about outsourcing, as I'm sure you know. And I think they have a right to be," she told a conference sponsored by the alumni of the Indian Institutes of Technology at Santa Clara in California.

Hillary, who was due to appear in person but could not make it to the event, spoke via satellite from New Orleans and warned that global business and government leaders should help keep Americans in jobs or suffer the consequences.

1. Pardon me while I vomit.
What ever happened to leaders in the USA being responsible for seeing that Americans are employed AND EMPLOYED WELL? Did she really say that about "Global business and government leaders should help keep Americans in jobs....."??? Excuse me? Our "fears" about outsourcing need to be "allayed"? What the hell does that mean? This kind of thinking is scary as hell. Since when do global business and government leaders have any f---ing responsibility for Americans having jobs?

Maybe it's just the way this was reported, but it makes her sound like she wants to be president of the globalization world so that everyone can be "lifted up" (right). We need a president who understands what the f has happened to workers in this country and who puts our interests before those of global business and govt leaders and the global population -- and not just as "consumers" (barf) but as citizens of the country she is supposed to represent.

If Hil wants to convince anybody that she is sincere in her concern, then she should denounce NAFTA and develop a new trade policy.

25. Technically outsourcing != offshoring
since you can outsource to other Americans but outsourcing is a term whose definition that the media and general population gets wrong. For all intents and purposes, when "outsourcing" is mentioned, it's "offshoring" that's meant unless prefaced otherwise. So to answer your question, yes, generally speaking. :)

26. I differentiate between the two.
You can outsource ONshore as well as offshore. Offshoring is just that: sending jobs to cheaper shores so the CEO can raise prices while buying more stuff while the American workers get impaled.

14. If the quality of living falls in reality and PERCEPTION?!!
Hey, Hillary....not all of us are millionaires, OK. MOST of us actually WORK for a living and depend upon the PAYCHECK to feed ourselves.

Outsourcing is done just so CEOs can become even wealthier.

So, the fact that I have like $10 until payday is merely a PERCEPTION to the woman who may be the nominee for the political party that claims to speak for the everyday worker?

24. You just can't listen to Hillary on outsourcing and free trade, you also have to hear what Bill says
on those subjects, especially when Hillary pretends to be a progressive and appears to oppose outsourcing and free trade. If Bill is urging Dems in Congress to pass Fast Track and the new free trade deals, then Hillary usually appeals to the Dem base and makes noise sounding like she will oppose outsourcing and free trade.
