Bush Administration Plans Early Test of Promise to Dismantle Weapons Systems

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Bush administration is planning an early test of Libya's promise to dismantle its nuclear facilities.
Working parallel with the International Atomic Energy Agency, but convinced Libya's weapons programs are far more extensive than the agency assumes, the administration will send a first group of technical experts to Libya in January.

The United States intends to pursue its own program for dismantling Libya's nuclear program as well as programs to develop chemical and biological weapons and missiles as well, said the official speaking on condition of anonymity.

President Bush is taking personal interest in dismantling the Libyan programs and wants to move quickly in helping Libya to identify and destroy them, the official said.
