Russia Wants Freeze on U.S. Missile Plan

Russia's foreign minister urged the United States on Saturday
to freeze plans for missile defense installations in eastern
Europe during negotiations and warned that the proposal —
intended to serve as a buffer against Iran — could backfire.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's comments, reported
by Russian news agencies, suggested the Kremlin is unhappy
that the United States has continued discussions on its plans
to deploy facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic following
Russia's counteroffer of joint use of a radar station in
Azerbaijan.

"It's necessary for Washington, at a minimum, to freeze the
deployment of missile defense elements in Europe for a period
of study and negotiations on the Russian proposal," ITAR-Tass
quoted Lavrov as saying.

Lavrov also warned that the U.S. missile defense plans could
hamper efforts to ease international concerns about Iran's
nuclear program, RIA-Novosti reported. The United States has
said the missile defense shield is intended to protect against
a potential Iranian threat.

MOSCOW (AFP) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that United States missile defence plans could worsen the Iranian nuclear stand-off and urged Washington to freeze work on the issue with the Czech Republic and Poland.

Lavrov said that the United States should take time to study a proposal by President Vladimir Putin made at the Group of Eight (G8) summit this week to use an alternative radar station in ex-Soviet Azerbaijan.

"It's necessary to freeze the deployment of missile defence systems in Europe for a period of study and analysis," he was quoted by ITAR-TASS as saying.

He went on to say that the US missile defence plans could "seriously complicate" efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resolve the stand-off over Iran's nuclear programme.

"Work is under way within the framework of the United Nations, the IAEA. We want this to fully clarify all aspects. The deployment of the missile shield in Europe may complicate these efforts, put in question Iran's willingness to openly cooperate," Lavrov said.

..If BushCo puts a "missle defence system" in Poland, can Putin put a "missle defence system" in Cuba or perhaps Canada?
I think more countries need to tell the US to fuck off and keep there bases and junk out of other countries, why they allow the states to do what they want is beyond me. They all know its just going to lead to headaches down the road.
