Romney critical of Clinton vision, work

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney described Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday as a European caricature who wants to turn the United States into a welfare state.


Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney meets with Iowans at the Well's Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor in LeMars. The GOP presidential hopeful also pointed out the differences between himself and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on a campaign stop in Sioux City.

Speaking before about 200 people in Sioux City, Romney said he wanted to point out differences between himself and Sen. Clinton, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.

"Her view is the old, classic, European caricature that we describe of big government, big taxation, welfare state," the former Massachusetts governor said.

"She gave a speech a couple of days ago and laid out her vision for America. And as I listened to her I figured her platform wouldn't even get her elected in France," Romney said to chuckles and applause.
