Commander: At least 2 U.S. troops alive
Source: AP

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The top U.S. commander in Iraq thinks he knows who kidnapped three U.S. soldiers last weekend and believes that at least two of them are alive, the Army Times newspaper reported.

"We know who that guy is," Gen. David Petraeus said in an interview posted Saturday on the Army Times Web site. He did not give the man's name but described him as "sort of an affiliate of al-Qaida. He's the big player down in that area. We've tangled with him before."

U.S. forces have been searching for the three since they went missing May 12 after a pre-dawn attack on their observation position about 20 miles south of Baghdad. Four U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi were killed in the attack.

According to the newspaper, Petraeus said he did not know for certain whether the three 10th Mountain Division soldiers were alive.

"As of this morning, we thought there were at least two that were probably still alive," he said. "At one point in time there was a sense that one of them might have died, but again we just don't know."

4. They couldn't have been kidnapped...
Edited on Sat May-19-07 12:05 PM by Davis_X_Machina
...in the first place if they were at, say, Ft. Riley, Kansas.

So there's a damn good reason they're over there in the first place, right?

Right?

6. And they are not being labeled POW's as that would force the Red Cross
into talking to them and asking about their treatment

7. Not so
I they classifiy them POWs then that makes the people who took them a recogonized military unit, and then they cease to be terrorist

8. Yes so
They call themselves allahs army, mookies martyrs brigades ect.ect. ect.
they call themselves military units in their press releases but the MSM chooses not to cover those soundbytes of the statements .

They are "a nation" at war with the creators of the Geneva convention.
They didn't sign any code of conduct as they are a nation without borders and self proclaimed "cross worshipper" killers.

LOL
If we in the west piece together a jigsaw puzzle that starts to connect the "profile" dots..... what do we in the west label ourselves ?
thats right, nothing to see here.Forget the subject was ever brought up.

11. US is bombing its military to encourage anti-Islam sentiment in USA?
Well, welcome to DU.

How about this, the USA military is roadside bombing and shooting each other to increase anti-occupation sentiment so the occupation will be declared over and they can come home. The USA military leaders have met in secret and decided who gets sacrificed so the rest can come home.

Or, let's see, how about this one? The commander in chief sent the military over on an unstated mission, without goals or ways to measure any progress, without equipment, without adequate training, to stir up the region and perpetuate the cycle of violence, ensuring that the military has to stay to try to stabilize what they destabilized and, oh, don't forget the oil.

 I don't trust the gov't in many ways, but I doubt they had a hand in killing 4 and the abduction of 3 others.

16. "sort of an affiliate"? WTF?
According to the newspaper, Petraeus said he did not know for certain whether the three 10th Mountain Division soldiers were alive.

"As of this morning, we thought there were at least two that were probably still alive," he said. "At one point in time there was a sense that one of them might have died, but again we just don't know."

Let me get this straight...at this point they THINK 2 soldiers may still be alive? I thought they couldn't find them. WTF? They think one may have died? This sounds like bullshit to me. General Betrayus is feeding us a load of crap, imo.

Don't get me wrong...my heart and every good vibe I can muster is with those missing soldiers. Damn. I just don't believe a thing they say anymore. It's maddening.

17. Too bad you can't believe a word Petraeus says.
He's a Bush yes-man, appointed solely for his loyalty to the criminal regime.

He will say what supports the neocon agenda and nothing else.

The Bush corporate mafia has stuffed the top ranks with their stooges and our military will suffer for years to come due to the "brain drain."

21. He's a war criminal
I'd love to see all these commanders in Iraq strung up on war crimes charges some day. What happened at Abu Gharib, Haditha, and Fallujah are not isolated cases. We are terrorizing the Iraqi people on a daily basis. Once we have our soldiers back home, there need to be in-depth war crimes trials, from the very top (Bush) all the way down to the very bottom. We must show the world that this won't be tolerated.

19. They "know," like they "knew" Iraq had WMDs? Or do they have proof?
There's a difference in really believing something is so, and "knowing" something is so. "Knowing" means having proof. I wonder if they have proof, or if a couple of Iraqis gave them some names, under torture. Oh, I mean, enhanced interrogation techniques.

Geez...I hope they don't go on a killing spree, killing people they "know" did this horrible attack, only to find out later they killed a bunch of innocent Iraqis.
