Gonzales deflects Democrats' criticism

BY LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer 56 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales confidently deflected House Democrats' demands Thursday for details in the firings of U.S. attorneys, appearing ever more likely to survive accusations that the dismissals were politically motivated.

Republican lawmakers rushed to Gonzales' defense as the attorney general denied anew that the firings last year were improper.

4. If anything he's confident he has * by the cojones
and therefore he will never be removed from his do nothing job. He knows where a lot of bodies are buried and he has perhaps given signals to rove & co that he will sing if they don't continue to back him.

8. I think he's right
We don't have a prosecutor. Gonzo hasn't actually been charged with anything. Barring impeachment, which the Democrats seem afraid of, or contempt of congress, it's hard to see where the committee goes from here. They can't just cintinue to hold hearings that seem to go no where. They need to quit fucking around, and make their case. If they don't, the public perception will grow that this is all just partisan politics.
