Suicide blast kills four in Iraq
BBC News

24 December, 2003, 11:29 GMT

A truck bomb blast has killed at least four people and injured 20 in the northern Iraqi Kurdish city of Irbil, Iraqi officials say.

The bomb exploded outside interior ministry offices, killing a suicide bomber, two policemen guarding the building and a passer-by.

The Kurdish north has been the most stable region of Iraq since US-led forces ousted Saddam Hussein in April.

The blast damaged the ministry and shattered windows in nearby buildings.

Just another day in Iraq since the Americans invaded. This sort of thing never happened when Saddam was in power, not it's a daily occurrence.

1. notice this is coming from Iraqi "officials"
Whoever they are, and not any official US statement about it. Did anyone ever find out about the 11 blasts in Baghdad last night? Any Iraqi official speak up about it?

2. And read the blog to get an ear full. also....
We bombed all over the city once more. Odd this killing people and blowing up their homes does not seem to work. I wonder why. If it was going on here we would just love it.

4. Odd, too ...
That the media persistently fails to mention that we are BOMBING the people we are "LIBERATING."

3. actually, it did happen under Saddam
the Iraqi al-Daawa movement pioneered the use of "suicide bombs" as martyr operations against Saddam's government all throughout the 80s (long before the Palestinians or the Black Tigers did so), more recently Kurdish rebels opposed to the KDP/PUK establishment made use of the tactic in the last few years.

5. Thanks for the info
I guess I've never bothered to study the history of suicide bombings and how this concept originated.

However, apparently even though this sort thing did happen during Saddam's reign, it didn't happen on a daily basis and probably not even on a monthly basis.
