Four U.S. soldiers killed in Baghdad - military

BAGHDAD, April 30 (Reuters) - Four American soldiers were killed in Baghdad over the past two days, the U.S. military said on Monday.

That takes to more than 100 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq this month, making April one of the deadliest for American forces in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

The U.S. military said in a statement that three soldiers had been killed by a roadside bomb in eastern Baghdad on Sunday. An Iraqi interpreter was also killed in the attack.

A separate statement said one soldier was killed by small arms fire also in eastern Baghdad on Saturday.

BAGHDAD, April 30 (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq over the weekend, the military said on Monday, raising the number of American troops killed this month to over 100 and making April one of the deadliest of the war for U.S. forces.

The toll could increase the pressure on U.S. President George W. Bush, who is fighting a plan by Democrats to set a timetable for withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq.

Bush has vowed to veto a war spending bill from Democrats that requires combat troops to begin withdrawing by Oct 1. The Democratic-controlled Congress plans to send the bill to Bush on Tuesday.

The U.S. military said three soldiers had been killed by a roadside bomb in eastern Baghdad on Sunday. An Iraqi interpreter was also killed. Another soldier was killed by small arms fire in eastern Baghdad on Saturday.

Five more US troops killed in Iraq 36 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Four more US army soldiers and one marine have been killed in fighting in Iraq, the US military said on Monday, reporting casualties from incidents over the weekend.

The latest deaths brought US losses for the month to 96, making April the bloodiest month for the coalition so far this year, and total fatalities in the campaign to 3,349.

US command in Baghdad said three soldiers were killed and one wounded on Sunday "when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device, while conducting a combat patrol in an eastern section of the Iraqi capital."

Another soldier died on Saturday when his patrol came under fire, again in east Baghdad, where thousands of American troops are fighting alongside their Iraqi comrades as part of a city-wide security operation.

7. They're just "commas".......
Bush probably had fun this weekend riding his dirt bike and drinking while someone else's loved ones died to massage his little man ego. And chickenshit Cheney is getting his jollies from someone else doing the dirty work since he certainly never did.

11. Exxon made 9 billion or so last year. Mission accomplished!
RIP, Troops.

You died because of a corrupt and murderous war-pprofiteering regime.

The US Army military on top of the Iraq oil fields allows Bush's oil cronies to control the supply.

$3/gallon and rising.

16. ExxonMobil didn't make $9 billion last year
They made more than $39 billion in profits; $9 billion was just one quarter's profits.

Let's see, 20 months at 100 dead per month means 2,000 more grieving families that can't possibly be avoided, because Junior equates leaving Iraq with losing, and he doesn't want to lose. So as long as impeachment continues to be "off the table," I submit that our congressional leaders are signing on for their share of the prospective 2,000 dead. That's an awful lot of blood, but I think we can get a goodly bit on all 535 pairs of hands in the House and the Senate.

18. My bad - - - - - $ 9,000,000,000 last QUARTER !!
The Iraq war really is all about the oil. Stupid freepers thought Bush would steal the oil so we could have cheap gas. They forgot who the idiot king works for. It's not the American People. It's the robber barons for whom Bush works.

13. Escalation = more targets.
Escalation = less training. New troops are going into the field without the training they need and are dying as a consequence.

Escalation = longer deployments. Longer deployments result in burnout, combat fatigue, which leads to operational mistakes with fatal consequences.

George Bush has escalated his war in Iraq so that the defeat will not happen while he is president. He is killing our troops to save himself from the embarassment of admiting that this blunder of his has failed.

The time to put impeachment back on the table is now.
