New FEMA Hurricane Plan Won't Be Ready
Source: CBS

CBS/AP) A federal government plan for responding to emergencies will not be ready in time for the approaching hurricane season, officials have told Congress.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, which bore the brunt of criticism following the 2005 season when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast, sent an advisory to Congress last week acknowledging it will not meet its June 1 deadline for issuing a new national response plan.

The Atlantic hurricane season is officially from June 1 to Nov. 30, according to the Web site of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory. Nearly all hurricane and tropical storm activity occurs in that six-month period. Early September is the most-active period.

The FEMA advisory said development of the new plan had been delayed by unexpected issues, and more time is needed to resolve them. No new target date was set. In the meantime, a modified version of the plan in place during Katrina will be followed.

Now that Katrina is two years old.

20. Two years!
Do you know how long that is in Bush years? Let's see... six years into his administration has pushed back centuries of Constitutional law... that makes two years equivalent to... 50 or 75 years, I guess. Gosh, you lib'ruls hold onto things way too long. Get over Katrina already!

:sarcasm: (obviously)

3. simply because they don't want it to be ready
I mean, if you can't make a plan after a year or two, then either a) your too stupid to make a plan, or b) you don't really want to.

6. The Hurricanes
will just have to wait.

I coined a motto once for the company where I worked. "We have exceeded our goal of zero improvement by a wide margin."

As if no one ever is to blame ... for anything. No responsibility, no accountability in BushCo Wunderland. What a dreamworld they're in.

13. This amazes me! We have tens of thousands of retired senior military officers, any one of which
could prepare a plan in just a few weeks given authority and adequate, meaning low cost, staff support.

:puke: on Dubya and his incompetent, political, crony-appointees.

19. Assuming the National Guard would be an essential part
of any plan, maybe the " unexpected issues" was the Pentagon sending the additional NG to Iraq as well as extending the tours of those already there. No NG, no plan.

21. I'm sorry this rocket science
the military can plan for everything except
protecting and rescuing their citizens as Katrina showed.

They can rush cargo planes, bombers, naval fleets and helicopters to do destruction
but can't use that power for peace.

26. yes, kind of hard to have a plan if you do not have the NG there
The NG helps their state in these times and it is kind of hard to help out their state when they are running for cover in an illegal war.
