Thousands march against Colombia bombing

CALI, Colombia - Tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of Cali on Thursday to protest the bombing of the city's police barracks, blamed on Colombia's largest leftist rebel group.

The 110-pound car bomb gutted the five-floor police headquarters before dawn Monday, killing a taxi driver and injuring 34. Authorities blamed the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, which has been trying to overthrow Colombia's democratic government for nearly five decades.

"We're here to demonstrate that Cali is united and not afraid," said Angelino Garzon, governor of Valle de Cauca state, whose capital is Cali.

The government said about 200,000 people marched, but an Associated Press photographer at the scene said the crowd size appeared closer to about 50,000.
