Clark Campaign Beats The Spit Out Of Tom 'Chicken-Hawk' Delay
This morning on Meet the Press, when asked about Clark's criticism of the Bush administration's failure to capture those responsible for 9/11 and his stance that the threat in Iraq was not imminent, Tom Delay said, "unfortunately Wesley Clark must live in a different world."

Clark Campaign Strategist Reid Cherlin responded to Tom 'Chicken-hawk' Delay's latest cowardly comments, "The closest to real combat that Tom 'Chicken-Hawk' Delay has ever come was when he got himself a student deferment from Vietnam and instead suited up in his exterminator outfit and defended the people of Texas against invading cockroaches, marauding red ants and hostile moths. Wes Clark has seen real combat, given his blood for our country, and commanded troops in battle, which is why he believes we need to win the war on terrorism instead of declaring victory when we all know that the terrorists directly responsible for 9/11 are still out there at large. General Clark lives in a world where he believes that America will be stronger, safer and more secure if we are focused on winning the war against the terrorists, getting Osama bin Laden and working with our Allies."

Just to remind people of the Chicken-hawk's views on military service, here is what he has said about his lack of military experience, in an excerpt from the Houston Press:

"He and Quayle, DeLay explained to the assembled media in New Orleans, were victims of an unusual phenomenon back in the days of the undeclared Southeast Asian war. 'So many minority youths had volunteered for the well-paying military positions to escape poverty and the ghetto that there was literally no room for patriotic folks like himself.' Satisfied with the pronouncement, which dumbfounded more than a few of his listeners who had lived the sixties, DeLay marched off to the convention." <Houston Press, 1/7/99>

1. Go go go!
Expose the chickenhawks for what they are! I've found when neocons are confronted with liberal military types, they fall strangely silent.

I wish Gen. Clark well, and hope he keeps up his campaign to expose the Bush Admin. for the chickenhawks they are. Can hardly wait until he explains why being AWOL, even from the National Guard, is treasonous in time of war.

Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 01:53 PM by The Zanti Regent
Someone who is NOT afraid to stand up to the Nazi Party.

Time and again Clark has shown he has the backbone to stand up. When the Nazis take a swing at him, Clark takes his bat and beats them into hamburger. He puts the black and brown shirt bible thumpers in their place.

Now lets see Chicken Shit De Lay open his stupid mouth again...

5. Affirmative Action strikes again!
Fu*king shithead is implying that all those unqualified 'minority' youths who subsequently died in disproportionate numbers to whites during Vietnam only signed up for the cash; whereas, he being a true patriot wanted to sign up to defend his country, but all the available spaces were filled. I really do despise those bastards and hope that they get what's coming to them sooner than later.

Wes Clark, John Kerry and Al Gore didn't have any problem signing up and going to Nam.

Delay's statement was almost grotesque in its ludicrousness.

16. I think Mrs. Powell was the reason we didn't have a Black President
At least, she is portrayed as the person who persuaded Colin Powell not to run when his chances were the best.

He played himself when he joined Bush & Cos. cabinet and will never get (or deserve) the chance to get the Presidential nod...

phase of hesitating to even SHAKE a black person's hand (seen it more than once with my own two eyes). They would have NEVER let Powell run.

24. Powell would have made the RW put up or shut up
He would have pulled votes from *both* parties and could have won a general election, IMHO. He was a decorated war hero with few negatives (at that time). I really used to admire him, until he signed on with Bush & Co.

He would have been a major threat to the good ol' boys back then. That threat has been effectively neutralized.

I almost wince when I think of how much admiration I had for Powell back when I thought he might have run for POTUS.

He sold himself short IMO by taking a cabinet position in the Bush Administration. I'm sure one day he will look back on that moment and say, "I could have been a contender!"

39. actually, Powell showed his true colors,
no pun intended, when he left Clinton in the fall of 1993 (just around the time the Somalia expedition Bill inherited from Poppy went sour), laid low and then signed on with W while the election was still hingeing on hanging chads. Remember the photo-op of him with Bush and Trickier Dick sauntering around the ranch like smug pricks because they knew they were going to steal it. :puke:

Powell was and is a jerk; he just had people snookered. His lies at the UN on behalf of Smirk have sealed the deal. He truly is one of them: a lying, cheating, murdering GOP bastard.

21. LOL with a few reservations...
Ok, I have laughed so hard that I have almost hit the floor myself. My hope though is that Clark taking the "high road" is not jeopardized too much by such statements. DeLay certainly deserves it though. And by using DeLay's own words against him makes an powerful statement.
Deciding on how far you can go without going too far in statements must be agonizing.... I wonder if "Anal Cyst Limbotomy" will come to the defense of the exterminator man.

Damn this is too much fun--yet getting sidetracked with a parasite like DeLay could be dangerous. But I think worth the risk--because it is high time the republican congressional leadership gets linked to Bush. I'd like to see Bush and the GOP dictatorship (congressional leadership)attacked as one and the same entity.

his campaign strategist did. This, IMHO is appropriate... Clark shouldn't be responding to every Tom Dick and Harry that attacks him... by not responding himself, he sends the message that Delay is beneath his notice.

Clark's response, if asked, should be "Tom Delay? Oh, yeah, that former exterminator guy. Well. Whatever."

52. sending another signal to Bush
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 12:32 AM by Cocoa
This is the third signal to Bush, by my count, that Clark will go where others are afraid to go.

First, he raised Bush's alcoholism, twice in two days.

Then, he was the first candidate, maybe the only one, to say that Bush should be held accountable for Sept. 11.

Now, Bush should know from this latest statement that Clark will use chickenhawk. Why would he use it on DeLay and not on Bush?

Next... will Clark break the silence on Bush looking like a monkey?

54. This kind of talk carries more weight from Clark and his campaign
than any other candidate IMO. Dean's outrage was contagious, Clark's is deeply infectious. Lets hope it spreads. I can smell the fear coming over Rove and company as Clark rolls up his sleeves and attacks. I have been a big Dean supporter because he was making those kind of statements early and often, but Clark, a four star general making them now, trumps a Vermont governor. Dean and Clark are showing the way to win. Kerry seems to be getting the message but he has been a bit too tentative when he has had the spotlight.

All I want is to send the squatter * squealing out of the White House, to await his fate as historians eviscerate his brief squalid little reign. Once we decide whether Clark, Dean or Kerry will carry the banner, we need to close ranks tightly.

59. Sad to see Dems falling for this home-grown baiting
Sure, Delay sucks. That's not the point.

If we follow the Clark campaign's logic, those with military service have better standing to take part in the debate over our imperial nation.

Wrong. In fact, the reverse is healthier for democracy: the military has no place in our politics.

As for this galling phrase...

Wes Clark has seen real combat, given his blood for our country, and commanded troops in battle

...the sane response is disgust, not boyish fascination or nationalistic pride. Now is not the time -- when we are conducting an immoral and illegal occupation of Iraq -- to fan the flames of militarism.

60. But maybe it's time to fan the flames of accountability, expose hypocrisy
You seem to have missd the entire chickenhawk point. The argument here is not that hurray - our guy has a nice uniform, but rather "How dare you, chickenhawk Delay even think of attacking Clark who actually fought"
Funny you cannot rally around this point. Well, not, actually.

65. So veterans are not eligible to participate ?
No thanks to your vision, Voltaire. I respect those with military service and recognize they have every right to participate in politics. No more, no less.

61. Hilarious
The only difference between Tom DeLay and junior is that Tom DeLay had a job as an exterminator and junior has never ever had a job.

66. sweet!
it's an absolute OUTRAGE that that moronic quote by Delay regarding military service hasn't been brought up more. I mean, people should just be hammering him with that awful quote, like a game of Whack-a-Mole, every time he speaks. No really Tom, tell us again why you didn't serve? If I had been in the room when he said that I know I would have started laughing.

69. As the bumper sticker says:
"Gomer Pyle got closer to combat than George W. Bush did."
