Prosecutor: Slain Ga. boy was first molested
Source: Associated Press

SAVANNAH, Ga. - A convicted child molester and his father took turns sexually assaulting a 6-year-old boy while the molester’s mother watched, then they choked the boy to death, according to an indictment issued Wednesday.

The indictment charges all three family members with murder and child molestation in the slaying of young Christopher Michael Barrios, whose body was found last Thursday inside a trash bag dumped by a roadside.

District Attorney Stephen D. Kelley said he will seek the death penalty against 32-year-old George David Edenfield, who has a prior child molestation conviction from 1997, and his parents, David and Peggy Edenfield.

“This is one of the most horrific crimes that I have seen in 21 years of prosecutions,” Kelley said.

Horrible story that says a lot about some people and it also tells us there is a reason to believe in morals even when we do not believe in God. I'm sorry but this is the type of case that almost pushes me over to the side of the death penalty supporters.

6. The death penalty has never stopped these types because
they don't believe rules or consequences apply to them.

Oh my god.

12. I advocate "Life in Prison"
for all first time convicted sex offenders. Let them violate one another.

That is monstrous. You should be ashamed of yourself.

14. I wouldn't advocate the death penalty for prevention of others doing the same thing.

I just can't stand the thoughts of these people ever having the chance to do this again. Life in prison sometimes comes with a parole, and then heaven help other kids even it the men are very old.

17. Sure. But aren't sex offenders under special rules --
monitored for life?

(Oops -- I forgot that our justice system has been hijacked by the BFEE :( )

20. Oh it stops them all right. And rather permanently.
Death is good at preventing them from any more molesting.

29. also because they don't think they have done anything wrong.
this behavior is passed down from one generation to another. they all think it's right, so they carry on. it is a rare person that gets some good counseling and sees the problem. i know a guy like that. he did his time, and now knows that his father molesting him is not permission to molest others. of course, it's way more complicated than that, and not everyone is capable of drastic change, but i applaud this guy for taking charge of his life.

9. So am I in cases like this.
I think I might be able to push the button even. I don't know if I could live with it or not. The problem is that there are other cases where it is not so clear that the people are guilty and cases where the decision to execute is based more on skin color than on the crime itself.

By the way, just imagine what happened to the "molester" when he was a child and had these creeps for parents. I hate to think about it all, and I have had to deal with this type of thing before, like some of you who work in social services.

15. Yep. Last line of the story:
"His father, David Edenfield, pleaded guilty to incest in 1994. He was accused of having sex with an adult relative who was not his son."

5. The Death Penalty
is too good for these people. I'd rather they have very long prison sentences with men (and women) who know what they were convicted and sentenced for. In the pecking order of the prison system, those who molest and then murder children are thought of as the lowest of the low and have incredibly difficult lives with the other inmates. I wouldn't be surprised if repeated forced sodomy isn't on the menu in the near future for these two men.

13. Now you all know, this is not their first time
having family gatherings of such an occasion. It's just the one they got busted with.... How many have they murdered or just abused prior to this victim?

16. probably a lot.
like I said, I would guess the son was one of the parents victims and they never got caught. He did get caught at least once before because he was a known child molester.

18. No, not the death penalty
and here's why:

1. It is likely, given the history of the two men, that they have done this sort of thing before. Better to keep them alive and try to work a deal (perhaps solitary instead of general prison population) where they give up the names of their other victims.

2. There's no way they will ever get out if no possibility of parole is included in the sentence. But there is a possibility if these creatures are studied that maybe, just maybe, we may find out what causes people to turn into monsters like this. Since a father and son are involved, tests could be made to see if there is a genetic link as well as a behavioral link.

3. Killing a pedophile, either by lethal injection or via a fellow prisoner, does not dissuade other pedophiles from violating children.

By studying convicted pedophiles, we may find a pattern of behavior or a genetic marker that could be used to help us identify pedophiles before they are able to do a lot of damage.

19. My first inclination, in addition to the Death Penalty, for these three...
...is about 3 months a agonizing torture. But, on reflection, that wouldn't make me any better than them. Just fry 'em, stick 'em, or take them to Baghdad and hand 'em. Just get them off the face of this earth so they don't hurt any other innocent people like they did this poor child. If there is a God, I hope he's given this child a very, very special place in heaven, because he fucking owes it to him.

21. I living in Brunswick
see no need to feed clothe and give health care to this kind of person. Death penalty before they starve. Strike their names from history. I have an 8 year old grandson that is asking questions about this situation. IMHO he is to young to know what happened, he knows not to trust adults and to run screaming if one tries to touch him or grab him. But who is he supposed to run to? It might not deter people from committing this type of crime by using the death penalty, but it will eliminate them one by one. I don't like the death penalty but I like it better than these people or monsters.

22. Reminds me of a case I heard about one time at the agency.
I did not work with this child, but was informed about it just in case I had to. the child was the product of an incestuous family, and they were unsure who the father of the child was. It could be its grandfather, its uncle, or the husband of the mother, but the bets were not on the later. It seems the family lived on a farm where the patriarch ruled. Anytime he wanted sex he had it with whoever or whatever was closest. His children grew up to do the same. They all stayed on the farm and their children were added to the mix. The child, around the age of five/six drove the agency staff crazy begging them for sex constantly. The plan was to teach him how to not do this, but I don't know how they did with it, because I never had to follow through with working with the child.

Disgusting folks in this world. :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

26. I think they should be drawn and quartered
sorry but this is the kind of crime that makes me sick.

I really don't like the death penalty because I think it is better for someone to grow old looking out the window thinking about how if they had just managed to be nice to others....they too might be outside breathing free.

But this crime makes me sick and I really don't feel that these monsters deserve to live much longer, however I am concerned that they might have done this a few other times and we need to find out how many other children they may have murdered.
