1. Too bad everyone else involved "escaped" from prison last year.
USS Cole plotter escapes prison
Sunday, February 5, 2006; Posted: 5:17 p.m. EST (22:17 GMT)

(CNN) -- Interpol has issued "an urgent global security alert" after 23 "dangerous individuals" -- including a man identified as the mastermind of the attack on the USS Cole in 2000 -- escaped from a Yemeni prison.

The international crime-fighting organization said Sunday at least 13 of the 23 who escaped Friday were "convicted al Qaeda terrorists, some of whom were involved in attacks on U.S. and French ships in 2000 and 2002."

"Al Qaeda terrorists have been deemed a serious threat to the entire world community by the U.N. Security Council, by Interpol and by a wide range of countries," Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble said in the statement.

They escaped via a 140-meter (150-yard) -long tunnel "dug by the prisoners and co-conspirators outside," Interpol said.

"Their escape cannot be considered an internal problem for Yemen alone."

Among the escapees was Jamal Ahmed Badawi, considered the mastermind behind the attack on the USS Cole on October 12, 2000.

Badawi was sentenced to death in September 2004 for plotting the attack. Two suicide bombers blew up an explosives-laden boat next to the destroyer while the destroyer was in the Aden, Yemen, harbor for a routine fuel stop.

2. Oh really? Bet he didn't come close to Khalid's waterboarding record. ;P
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 10:04 AM by ShortnFiery
I bet he also confessed to sneaking in our homes on Christmas eve to steal all those ponies we left for our kids but are now gone.

Kid on Christmas Day: "Daddy, you promised me a pony but there's only horse-shit in my stocking."

Daddy Chickenhawk: "Oh no honey, that evil Mohammed the terrorist sneeked in and stole your pony."

You know all those Mohammeds' are terrorist scum. :sarcasm:

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed last week &
Mohammed Bin Attash TODAY. :-)

Makes it so easy for our new budding KKK that's now targeting every ONE who's BROWN as "the enemy."

4. What is it with these confessions?
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 10:30 AM by CJCRANE
Is this the Spanish inquisition or something?

F*ck confessions, try them on the evidence, then put them in the slammer if found guilty.

On edit: this is simply the neocons tying up all the loose ends using the MSM as propaganda to convince the Repub base that all terror plots have now been solved.

5. more deflection attempts
the Bu$h admin may have to find Jimmy Hoffa and dig him up to get their collective asses out of the bind they are in now, and that may not even be enough to save them.

They'll throw anything out there now to try and deflect attention from their failures.

7. Planner of USS Cole Attack Confesses
Source: AP

By PAULINE JELINEK

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - A Yemeni portrayed as an al-Qaida operative and a member of a terrorist family confessed to plotting the bombings of the USS Cole and two U.S. embassies in Africa, killing hundreds, according to a Pentagon transcript of a Guantanamo Bay hearing.

The transcript released Monday was the fourth from the hearings the military is holding in private for 14 ``high-value'' terror suspects who were kept in secret CIA prisons before they were sent to the U.S. facility in Cuba last fall.

Last week, Waleed bin Attash said he helped plan the 1998 embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than 200, according to the transcript. He also said he helped organize the 2000 attack on the USS Cole in which suicide bombers steered an explosives-laden boat into the guided-missile destroyer, killing 17 sailors.

``I participated in the buying or purchasing of the explosives,'' bin Attash said when asked what his role was in the attacks. ``I put together the plan for the operation a year and a half prior to the operation, buying the boat and recruiting the members that did the operation.''

16. legally worthless, as is any statement given under duress.
if your boss thretens you with the sack if you don't testify the way he wants you to and you do what he wants that invalidates your testimony.

Compare that to waterboarding, electric shocks and being forced into stress positions for hours/days at a time.

Would you trust testimony obtained by torture?

These poor fuckers probably confessed to a lot more than than what they were charged with, even stuff they had alibis for. You can get people to confess to the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand.

Hey this whole war on terror stuff is really showing results. All those loose ends being tied up. Pretty soon the terrorist suspects will have run out of things to confess to.

15. I wonder if this stuff would work on teen-agers?
Having had 5 I think I missed out. I guess my problem was I never figured I owned my children so figured putting them on the rack was just out of the question. They also had the right to get a lawyer and take me to court. One just had to give up all the fun in life.

I raised two daughters myself...your post made beer spew out of my nose and all over my monitor/keyboard  I know exactly how you felt (figuratively, of course).

As for the "confession", I would admit to anything also after many days/months/years of sensory depravation, water boarding, isolation, etc. What has happened to us? I want my country BACK

20. Those dang teenagers had people they could call too.
these guys in Guantanamo don't have anyone to call even if they had one to use. We USAers boohoo about any of our citizens who get put in prison overseas for breaking the laws there, what would we do it their armies came over here and took people and put them in prison in order to find out if they had broken any laws anywhere. Well, we don't have to worry because if we don't stop them, these power hungry idiots will come after us when they finish with the "terrorist".

26. That was part of the point of the post. My teen-sager have rights.
Seems most GOP top people do not know that. Plus that one does not own people to do as they like with. I think we first took that to King John at Runnymede. I understand he was not happy about it either. Must have been a Far Righter. Stepped on his power from God. You would think we would be out in the streets on this but here I sit.

22. I plotted E. African terror, sez Qaeda big
Source: DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Another top Al Qaeda thug has confessed, this time to masterminding attacks on the destroyer Cole and two U.S. embassies in East Africa.

Walid Bin Attash admitted to his "many roles" in the suicide bombings. But unlike 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, he didn't offer regrets.

Attash told a military tribunal at the Guantanamo naval base that he was "the link" between Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and the Nairobi, Kenya, cell behind the 1998 embassy attacks that killed 213 people, including 12 Americans.

Attash also said he was with Bin Laden in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on Oct. 12, 2000, when a small boat blew a hole in the Cole, moored in the Yemeni port of Aden, killing 17 U.S. sailors
