Pastor stole church from his congregation
Pastor stole church from his congregation
The Associated PressPublished: February 12, 2007

RIPON, California: For nearly a decade, members of Ripon's First Congregational Church bared their souls to Pastor Randall Radic. But clearly it did not work both ways.

A year ago, Radic pleaded guilty to betraying his congregation and secretly selling the church. He used the money to buy himself a brand-new BMW and a laptop exploits he later chronicled in an almost gleeful blog about his double life as a sinner and tried to sell as a book.

"We didn't know anything until we got a call from the bank that he had bought a BMW," said David Prater, who led the church board during Radic's tenure. "He drove that car right down Main Street."

Irate parishioners wanted a long prison term of up to 16 months at Radic's sentencing, set for Thursday.

But Radic's lawyer last week said the 54-year-old former pastor, who spent six months in jail awaiting trial, will not have to serve any more time behind bars because he agreed to testify about his cell mate's alleged murder confession.

1. Stealing from people who have put their trust in you is one of the worst things you can do.

3. Only 16 months? Not nearly long enough
I think each and every member of the congregation should file individual criminal charges for fraud.

Randall Radic Opts To Testify Against Accused Killer

POSTED: 12:50 pm PST February 6, 2007

MANTECA, Calif. -- A former Ripon church pastor who admitted to embezzlement will receive a reduced sentence in exchange for his testimony in a high-profile homicide case, officials announced Tuesday.

Attorneys said Randall Radic, who sold his church out from under parishioners, will receive a punishment that will likely include six months in jail that he has already served and restitution to his victims.

The prosecutor was earlier seeking to have Radic serve 16 months in state prison and pay restitution.

Authorities familiar with the plea deal said Radic has agreed to testify against Roy Smith, who is charged with the killing of Mary Starkey.

does this guy have love and hate tattooed on his knuckles by any chance?

Just after Smith was arrested a witness said he confessed, so why do they need this lairs testimony too?
