EXCLUSIVE: Iranian President Ducks Charges That Iran Is Arming Iraqi Insurgents
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Says His Country Is Asking for Peace and the U.S. Should Leave Iraq

Feb. 12, 2007 — In an exclusive interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad refused to address accusations that his country was supplying weapons to insurgents in Iraq, saying instead that Iran asked for peace and was against conflict of any kind.

<snip>

Sawyer: I can begin. They say 170 troops and some 600 have been injured by Iranian weapons. Are you sending weapons into Iraq to kill Americans?

Ahmadinejad: ...

When it come to Iraq, we have made it clear that kind of lack of security, insecurity in Iraq is also to our disadvantage and also disadvantage to the nations of the region. Iraq only for a period when Saddam was in power had a good relationship. We have a very good relationship with Iraq. We are historical friends. We have intermarriages between the two nations, and millions of Iranians and Iraqis travel to each other's countries.

And our position for Iraq is very clear: We are asking for peace, we are asking for security, and we will be sad to see people get killed, no matter who they are. It could be Iraqis. We will be sad if we hear they are killed or anyone who is brought there by force and is put in the middle of the conflict.

Sawyer: But how is it possible to believe this? The Americans have been given evidence. They say they have rocket-propelled grenade launcher. … It speaks for itself.

Ahmadinejad: Well it's very easy to make a judgment when you don't have good defense or making a one-sided judgment. I think that Americans have made a mistake in Iraq and unfortunately are losing, and this is a shame for Americans of course and that's why they are trying to point their fingers to other people and pointing fingers to others will not solve the problem. I think that we should be honest and face the reality.

1. "...they have rocket-propelled grenade launcher. … It speaks for itself."
Evidently Sawyer is willing to take this lying, fabricating administration's word of Iranian weapons by way of a flimsy POWERPOINT presentation that mostly shows weapons with English markings on them.

Now that she's grilled Ahm'mad, why doesn't she grill BushCo over its support of Iranian terrorist group MEK, who oppose the Islamic regime in Iran, and has been using them since the invasion of Iraq to try and destabilize Iran's government? The MEK have reason to cooperate with the US and to do little favors like providing "evidence" of Iranian weapons in Iraq and "intelligence" on Iran's weapons program.

2. "ducks charges". Same US "media".
Saddam Hussein repeatedly denied having WMD; he was accused of "smirking" and "lying".

The bush regime said:

"If he declares he has none, then we will know that Saddam Hussein is once again misleading the world.

"We have sources that tell us that Saddam Hussein recently authorized Iraqi field commanders to use chemical weapons -- the very weapons the dictator tells us he does not have.

3. what a shitty translation.

If the translation of Sawyer's words were as bad as those of Ahmadinejad, it is likely that the two of them were not exactly communicating.

It seems to me that rather than ducking anything Ahmadinejad was answering questions that only bore a slight resemblance to the english version.

8. Fool me once........anyone who buys GW's stuff without real proof
is a real fool. That shrubery will kill us all and thinks starting WWIII will bring Jesus back. He and the Fundi's don't realize that Jesus is not necessarily going to go according to their suspected time line.

9. Didn't Dan Rather interview Saddam H. on the eve of the war?
I'm pretty sure some of you here watched that interview and when Dan said, point blank to Saddam;
"Do you have or currently posses the means to produce WMD?"

Does anybody remember Saddam's reply ?

Damn, I wish that interview question was available on YouTube.
but anyway
This Diane Sawyer interview starts out with the same point blank type of question.
It is
Deja Vu

Asked by ABC News's Diane Sawyer whether Iran is supplying weapons to the US's enemies in Iraq, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did what he so often does -- a verbal tap dance. He refused to directly answer the question (and related follow-up questions)

The Iranian nut job won't meet the same fate so that statement is where the Deja Vu ends.
