New Fears: The Return of a Superterrorist (Newsweek via MSNBC)
More propaganda from the office of the President of Vice Dick Cheney, through official media channels, and into your head. he wants that war, and is gambling that people are still as stupid as they were back in 2002.

New Fears: The Return of a Superterrorist
Newsweek
Feb. 5, 2007 issue

Before Osama bin Laden, there was Imad Mughniyeh. The Lebanese terrorist from Hizbullah was considered the most dangerous in the world. Now the White House worries that he's back, after years of lying low. Four serving U.S. intel and counterterrorism officials, anonymous when discussing sensitive material, said Mughniyeh is prominent in recent reporting from the field about Hizbullah activity. Bruce Riedel, a veteran Mideast expert recently retired from the CIA, told NEWSWEEK there is "no question he is heavily involved in terrorist contingency plans in case of a U.S.-Iran confrontation."

Mughniyeh has the résumé to be a potent threat. He was the alleged organizer of a series of devastating bombings and kidnappings against U.S. targets in Lebanon during the 1980s, including two bombings of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. But Hizbullah later made a strategic decision to abandon attacks on American targets. Even now, U.S. intel officials stress that they don't believe Hizbullah will actually hit U.S. interests unless Washington strikes first—against either the movement or its key patron, Tehran.

So what is Mughniyeh up to? Two of the U.S. officials interviewed by NEWSWEEK said field reports indicate that he travels between Beirut, Damascus and Tehran.

9. That's (sadly) the real reason Usama BinLaden became such a media phenomenon.
After all the Muslim terrorists who ever came down the pike,
we FINALLY found one whose name could be pronounced
by the average FReeper.

Years of "terorizing" in obscurity, then suddenly: OVERNIGHT SUCCESS!

6. So we get to attack Reagan now? This guy bombed our embassy in Beirut and
Reagan went and invaded Grenada in retribution. So if Reagan hadn't secured Caribbean Nutmeg, then we'd be secure now because this guy would be dead or in custody, right?

14. "Bin Laden is a schoolboy in comparison with Mughniyeh,"
"Bin Laden is a schoolboy in comparison with Mughniyeh," says an Israeli who knows Mughniyeh . "The guy is a genius, someone who refined the art of terrorism to its utmost level. We studied him and reached the conclusion that he is a clinical psychopath motivated by uncontrollable psychological reasons, which we have given up trying to understand. The killing of his two brothers by the Americans only inflamed his strong motivation."

Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 05:44 AM by NYC
So, in the early 1980s, he was 20?

Imad Fayez Mugniyah (Arabic: عماد فايز مغنية‎; born December 7, 1962) is a senior member of the Hezbollah organization. He is alternatively described as the head of its security section, a senior intelligence official and as a founder of the organization. Limited information is known about him. He uses the alias of Hajj. Mugniyah is included in the European Union's list of wanted terrorists.
