Area residents D.C.-bound to protest war
Sister Dorothy Schuette opposed the United States' invasion of Iraq from the beginning. "This war was engaged in without any aggression on anybody else's part except the United States," the Covington resident said. She did what she could to stop it, protesting in rallies on Fountain Square and taking her concerns to the office of U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, R-Hebron.

Now, she is taking her concerns to the nation's capital. She'll be joined by at least 100 other locals and thousands of others in an anti-war rally and march at the National Mall on Saturday.

Buses and vans from 30 states and 111 cities are expected, according to United for Peace and Justice, the march organizer. The group says that its last three national marches each attracted 300,000 to 500,000 people. MoveOn.org has asked its 3.2 million members to participate.

Schuette, a Benedictine nun and pastoral associate at Mother of God parish in Covington, sees the event as a march for life, very similar to the pro-life, anti-abortion march held Monday in Washington. If nothing else, it bears witness that people want to find peaceful ways to get out of "this awful situation in Iraq," she said. "It's like, as an individual, what else can I do?"

2. At least 100 other locals!
I know 40 people who are coming on our bus from my county alone, we're 30 miles south! And they probably haven't factored in our bus in the count.

3. please let the turnout be massive - we'll be there with our neighbor
and three busloads are coming from Charlottesville. I hope everyone who can possibly find a way to DC comes. I want us to be a critical mass that Congress can't ignore, if only to stiffen the spines of our reps.
