WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush was told on Sunday that there is a strong indication that ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein has been captured in Iraq, a senior white house official said.

Bush was told Saturday afternoon that Saddam might have been captured and was kept abreast of the verification process and was told again on Sunday morning that U.S. forces believe strongly they had Saddam, said the official.

There is "a strong indication to support it is him," he said..

1. If that is true
then it means they have plenty of time to get him sobered up and prepped to make a statement. However, even with ample lead time, it will probably take them until this afternoon to get him ready.

3. W must have gotten super drunk after hearing the news
Reuters

<snip>

Bush was told early on Sunday morning at the White House that U.S. troops had captured Saddam near his hometown of Tikrit. Aides said he might offer public comments later in the day.

<snip>

Bush canceled his trip to church on Sunday. Aides attributed the decision to the heavy overnight snow blanketing the nation's capital rather than to the surprise news of Saddam's capture.

The president was first informed of what appeared to be the capture of Saddam on Saturday afternoon while he was at the presidential retreat of Camp David, and returned to the White House for the night.

National security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, updated him shortly after 5 a.m. (1000 GMT) Sunday.

6. It is great Saddam was captured,,,
it does not absolve Bush of his lies to get America into Iraq.
There are no 500 tons of VX and Sarin Gas, there is mo nuclear bomb, there are not remote controlled drones to delliver these WMD's to America. Bush lied and that is the crux of the matter.
The whole context of the Iraq fiasco is Bush lied and our troops have been dying for that lie. Saddams capture does not make the lie go away or reserruct the dead because of that lie.
We can only hope it brings our people home sooner.

9. Nay, the Iraqis and the Kurds pulled a fast one on us
This was not a staged event and the Kurds let the cat out of the bag via Iran, possibly saving Saddam's life in the process.

If this had gone down the way Bu$hCo planned, W would have been strutting his stuff first thing this morning. He might have even flown to Baghdad to make the announcement himself.
