Former governors differ on back-to-back terms (Virginia)
From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

The men who have been there differ on whether Virginia's governors should be allowed to be elected to two consecutive terms.

Former Govs. L. Douglas Wilder, Jim Gilmore and Mark R. Warner favor a proposed constitutional amendment that would end Virginia's stance against succession. Virginia is the only state that does not allow sitting governors to succeed themselves.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and House Republicans are discussing a proposal in which the governor would give up some of his appointive powers in exchange for Republican support for two consecutive gubernatorial terms.

Former Govs. Gerald L. Baliles and Linwood Holton favor one six-year term. Former Govs. Charles S. Robb and George Allen prefer the current system.

1. They should permit at least 2 terms
In general, it would save the taxpayers money.
It would provide at least one term that the Governor is not considered a lame-duck Governor.
It would eliminate time to adjust to the position as Governor if elected to a 2nd term.

What benefits do the Governors receive when they are out of office? Do they receive a pension? If so how much? Would there be a financial benefit to the taxpayers if a Governor served 2 terms vs 1 term? Any other benefits?
