Bolivia to deport Cuban dissident
Good! Let the GUSANOS wherever they are shut the f*ck up.

<clips>

LA PAZ, Bolivia - The Bolivian government has announced plans to deport a prominent Cuban dissident who publicly criticized President Evo Morales' close ties to Havana.

Dr. Amauris Samartino, a Cuban who holds permanent residence status in Bolivia, will be expelled under a 1996 law forbidding immigrants to "intervene in any form in internal politics or incite by any means the alteration of the social and political order," according to a government statement on Sunday.

Samartino was arrested Saturday in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, a center of anti-Morales opposition, and later transferred to the Bolivian capital of La Paz.

He will be flown home to Cuba once his case has been processed, the statement said.

1. What was he really up to?
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 10:01 PM by Mika
Of course, you know that Carlos Valdez and the AP just love any Castro hater. So.. I wonder.. what was this guy was really up to? His actual activities have not been reported in the OP story. Was he making bombs like Luis Posada Carriles? Garnering sniper rifles or machine guns like Rodolfo Frometa? Aiding or abeting Alpha 66/CIA types? I wonder, because, what does "intervene in any form in internal politics or incite by any means the alteration of the social and political order," really mean --> in this case?

He may well have some ties to the American embassy, the CIA station to be precise. Our spooks love people like that.

12. According to a Spanish article this guy has been in trouble as recent
as last September and his visa annulled at that time for encouraging the *defection* of Cuban doctors in Bolivia. He was sponsored to Bolivia in 2000 by the USA and the Organization of International Migrations.

14. Have an alien Muslim in NYC call for toppling US government
See how long he lasts before ICE ices him.

Same principle at play here.

At a personal level, if someone were to invite you to their home for dinner, you wouldn't insult him/her by saying bad things about their family. That Cuban was an invited guest to another country, and he decided to do harm to it.

The man is simply being deported to his home country of Cuba.

Cuba does not = Gitmo.

BushCrimeInc + Cheney = Gitmo

25. There are no similarities at all in this case.
He was not just criticizing the government. He was violating the laws of Bolivia regarding immigrants. He was facilitating violation of a legal contract.

The man was encouraging (and had facilitated) Cuban doctors to violate the contract that their representative organization (the Cuban Ministry of Health) had negotiated with the government of Bolivia - that allowed them to practice medicine legally in Bolivia.

17. Well, as usual, an article from Yahoo, even if released from the
Edited on Tue Dec-26-06 12:27 AM by higher class
AP leaves much detail to be desired.

As we know, the Bush regime has established a military base in Paraguay (supposedly) very close to the Bolivian border. As we know, the Bush regime has said they have planted a base in Paraguay because of the terroist problem - terrorist crossing borders from (or to) Argentina, Brazil, etc. As we know, the type of terrorists are not mentioned, but we are led to assume they may be Moslem terrorists planning to move north and hurt us, right? So they send 500 military there and some construction workers and supplies (We know for sure they are not in Paraguay to protect Rev. Moon. Right?)

To continue, we also know, the Bush regime is very unhappy with the 'people leader', Morales. As we know, the Bolivians rose up to fight the takeover of their water by Bechtel and a French Company.
As we can guess, if we weren't so hard up for soldiers, we would probably have invaded Bolivia by now. And, as we know, the U.S. has planted dissidents in Cuba itself.

Just to set the stage. Since this article only mentions that Morales is a friend of Castro. So this article is kinda slanted on background, huh?

So this guys work includes 'talking to' Cuban doctors to try to lure them someplace?

So this guys mouth appears to have a purpose that displeases the government of Bolivia.

Bolivia writes a law which seems to be rational. "...a 1996 law forbidding immigrants to - intervene in any form in internal politics or incite by any means the alteration of the social and political order." This would include dissidents of the U.s.and even dissidents from Iceland or Macau if there were any, so why not a former or current Cuban citizen who is now accused of meddling socially or politically.

We could wait for more detail to be sure there aren't any more twists and turns to this or we can bring in all our prejudices and shoot words at each other and curse and talk down.

Me, I'd like to know the source of income for the Cuban dissident. AP reported the minimum possible. As usual.

18. I hope we get to hear a lot more about this jerk. Hope he's on the fastest
plane they've got back to Cuba. He has broken the law which was written well before Evo Morales was anywhere near the Bolivian President's office.

This was very peculiar:
Opposition leaders on Santa Cruz have decried Samartino's arrest and say they will ask Bolivia's public defender's office to block the expulsion.
(snip)
Why should the poor of Bolivia be forced to cough up the defense money for a man who was acting against their country? Let the Santa Cruz opposition pool their resources on his behalf, or his U.S. sponsors.

Wonderful photo posted, Say_What.

20. Well at least you're consistent, Judi Lynn.
You support the Castro regime's arrest of anyone who criticizes Cuba, and you support the Morales regime's arrest of anyone who criticizes Bolivia.

Just as a test, do you support the American arrest of anyone who criticizes the Bush regime?

26. The Bolivian government DOES NOT arrest anyone who criticizes it.
But Bolivian law says non-citizens cannot attempt to influence Bolivian politics. Bolivia is not alone in that regard. I know Mexico, for one, throws out foreigners who get involved in its politics. I'm not sure how many other Latin American countries have similar laws.

For your information, there is a loud and healthy opposition in Bolivia. They regularly criticize Morales.

27. Still spreading your dissinformation. Sad. As I wrote before in response to one of your
disinformation bits, please do take time to check this additional article by yet another Cuba traveler:
People do speak freely, criticising their government, but criticising the US government far more. Cubans also participate at much higher levels than Australians in political system.

Disinformation, contrived propaganda, or hot air, as you obviously recognize, DOES stay in the minds of the slowest ones among us, as they have short attention spans, and no ambition to find the truth for themselves, by moving forward on their chairs, and stirring that nearly dead gray matter around long enough to do a little research on the internetS.

You are going to be deeply embarrassed if you're still posting here once the travel ban is lifted and more Americans get in there to learn what real Cubans think.

Activists get federal aid to subvert Cuba regime

GARY MARX, The Kansas City Star

Monday, Feb 21, 2005

HAVANA - (KRT) - As part of a broad strategy to spur political change in Cuba, the U.S. government has been quietly sending hundreds of thousands of dollars to activists seeking to undermine President Fidel Castro's one-party state, according to documents and interviews.

The cash assistance is being channeled through the U.S.-financed National Endowment for Democracy and pays more than two dozen freelance writers for a Miami-based Web site that posts articles critical of the Cuban government.

The cash also supports opposition figures, human-rights activists, political prisoners and their families, including those prisoners jailed in 2003 during the government's crackdown on dissidents.

Supporters argue the cash payments, totaling about $200,000 a year, help keep opposition alive in a country where most dissidents are fired from their jobs and ostracized.

The cash payments comprise only a small part of President Bush's intensified campaign to squeeze the Castro regime through the tightening of trade sanctions and increased material support for opposition activists.

Yet even some supporters of Bush's approach say that providing cash to dissidents gives ammunition to Cuban officials who denounce the opposition as "mercenaries" for the United States.

Critics believe the payments also endanger the dissidents, who face up to 20 years in prison if they participate in any U.S. government-funded program.

"Providing funding to dissidents at a time when the U.S. government says that its objective is to bring down the Cuban government is to turn the dissidents into subversive agents," said Wayne Smith, a former U.S. diplomat in Cuba. "It's a colossal mistake."

It's ILLEGAL IN THE U.S. to write anti-US government material, and work to destabilize the U.S. Government while connected to another country's government, like this winner, Marta Beatriz Roque.

The man standing behind her in the suit is Bush's "diplomat," James Cason, ex Cuban Interests Section head.
