US Senator seeks free trade with India (Frist)
< 15 Dec, 2006 1233hrs ISTIANS >

WASHINGTON: An influential Republican Senator has asked President George Bush to negotiate a full-scale free trade agreement with India following the successful conclusion of the India-US civil nuclear deal.

"While it's a good beginning, however, we can't let this energy agreement stand alone," retiring Senate majority leader Bill Frist, who played a key role in getting the enabling India nuclear bill passed by the lame duck Congress, said.

"Should it come to fruition, a US-India free trade agreement would comprise over a quarter of the world's economy - the largest free trade zone in history. A free trade agreement with India, quite simply, is a national imperative. We should start work towards one without delay," he said in a commentary in The Examiner daily.

While the US and India have committed to a goal of doubling trade within the next three years, even that level would lie far below the potential, Frist said.

2. He's practicing for his new job....
as a lobbyist. Another Republican that is ready, willing and able to throw our country under a bus for his/her ow enrichment. I hope the new Democratic majority makes people like Frist extinct, but I'm dreaming. These swine will always find a way to divert America's money and power to their clients. Frist is just practicing for his place at the money trough.

3. Didn't Frist become just another private citizen when they
gaveled the Senate closed just a few days ago?

And if he is just a private citizen, he should just STFU!!!

Write an op-ed if he feels like it, or blog someplace.

8. Because we just don't have enough jobs going to India
Kinda funny how these "free-trade" agreements usually wind up being a one-way street, eh?
