Ford rules out DNC role

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. declared Monday he has no interest in chairing the Democratic National Committee, tamping down speculation he would challenge current chairman Howard Dean for the post.

"I have just finished a tough Senate election, and while I care about the future direction of my party, I am not interested in taking over the DNC," the Tennessee Democrat said in a statement released by his campaign. "We are now the majority party in the House and Senate, and it is time to move beyond the politics of the campaign and work towards bringing the country together around a common agenda that will strengthen us at home and abroad."

...

"The attention of the world is upon us and it is time the Democratic Party take the country in a new direction," Ford stated.

14. Obviously not meant in a derogatory way towards Ford
I'm pretty certain it was tongue-in-cheek regarding the racist ads aired by the repukes during the campaign.

2. Finally, Harold is playing smart politics.
Too bad he didn't do it in the weeks leading up to the midterm election. Still, it's nice to see he won't allow himself to be a tool of Carville & co.

3. good move...
I think he should take work somewhere in the private sector and erase that "he's only ever been a politician" label that they used to attack him. Become head of some public or private agency working for the common good. Or at an auto plant. Whatever.

11. Carville
Carville claims that "party insiders" (which aparently amount to just Carville) didn't like that Dean didn't play nice with his ol' buddy Rahm Emmanuel and wanted to kick Dean out and put Ford in the spot.

21. It took Dean ONE election. Where are you coming from?
Dean took over the DNC in February 2005.

In case you haven't noticed, there's only been one election since then.

Dean's a fucking genius.

22. I was counting from the Presidential primary.
He lost the primary. WE lost the Presidential & didn't gain anything in Congress. This would be the 3rd election. If a candidate can't win their own election, why sign them up for the chair? Makes no sense.

24. So by your logic
Kerry shouldn't be a Senator because he lost the presidential election.

And Edwards shouldn't be in Congress because he lost in the primary.

Your logic has no logic.

How gossip spreads.

Greenwald posted how conventional wisdom spreads.

I mean here is Ford sounding like it was offered to him.

23. He was never offered the job.
A quote from Carville saying Ford would do a good job as DNC chair ended up on a blog and that was extrapolated to mean something it didn't by those that thrive on controversy. It was a nonstory blown into a huge "thing" used as ammunition in the old school versus new school Dem leadership Hatfield vs McCoy endless struggle.
