Taliban Attacks Increase (T'ban, Al Qaeda, Hekmatyar team up)
A special report from Ausaf reporter Ibrahim Khan suggests that Taliban have aligned with Gulbaddin Hikmatyar and Al-Qaida to sabotage the proposed Loya Jirga and in an effort to intensify guerilla warfare and better coordinate their attacks against the Americans in Afghanistan.

A special group consisting of Mujahideen from all three groups has been formed to consolidate resources and share intelligence. American agents are calling the Special Forces the “Secret Army of Mujahideen” or SAM. Sources told the Ausaf reporter that the creation of this elite group took place in Kunar province last week at an unknown location however they did not state who is in command.

The first mission of the force is to sabotage the Loya Jirga, with at least 250 Mujahideen having dedicated themselves for martyrdom operations. The total strength of the special force is not known but it is rumored to be large. The elite unit’s operations will be directed by a joint committee that reports directly to the Taliban, Al-Qaida and Hizb-e-Islami (Hikmatyar’s group) leadership.

Attacks on coalition convoys have been reported in Paktika, Khost, Logar, Paktia and Faryab. Four government officials were reported killed and many wounded in those attacks and five Taliban Mujahideen were also reported martyred however this report is yet unconfirmed.

1. What is Putin's real position on Afghanistan?
Just curious.

2. there are Russian troops in Afghanistan
which, as you can imagine, is a testy situation.

Putin has genuine concerns about Islamism (see Chechnya), so he's pretty much all for the Afghan operation. The Balkans war is another example, where often Russian fighters, mercenaries and volunteers, would operate inside Serb regiments fighting the predominately Muslim Kosovars (i hope I have the sides right that war was so confusing ethnically), and likely even taking part in. . . you guessed it. . . ethnic cleansing.

3. i hope
that Afghanistan will one day again know what it is to be a peaceful country. The hatred over there seems unquenchable. It would be nice to have more troops in Aghanistan right about now, too many troops in Iraq. Is it just me or are Bush's cards showing? His priorities are all f'ed up.
