EMBATTLED COUNCILMAN: Ethics probe advances
A Las Vegas ethics panel on Thursday called for a full investigation of charges that
City Councilman Michael McDonald abused his office to help a friend and his employer -- charges that could ultimately cost McDonald his seat on the council.

Larry Scheffler, McDonald`s boss at
Las Vegas Color Graphics, owns a 6 percent share of Sportspark, a northwest Las Vegas recreational center, and has been interested in selling it off for several months, according to the police report.
The report cast doubt on McDonald's explanation that he toured the Sportspark complex in May in preparation for a charity softball game that was to be hosted by
Youth Charities of Southern Nevada. The police investigation also looked into whether McDonald undermined the application for a topless club permit for a building owned by political consultant
Sid Rogich. It is located near a similar, competing adult club owned by McDonald`s friend,
Rick Rizzolo.<snip>
Cremen told the board it is appropriate to investigate McDonald despite the meandering format of Rose's complaint. The evidence suggests McDonald might have unlawfully lobbied
City Manager Virginia Valentine and other City Council members to consider buying Sportspark and that he called on city employees to conduct research regarding Rogich's application for a topless club permit.
