LTA: Democrats' Senate hopes lie with rural voters, poll finds (Webb now ah...
Capturing a Senate majority is within the Democrats' reach, but the party is facing potentially decisive resistance from rural voters in three critical Republican-leaning states, a series of Times/Bloomberg polls has found.

If Democrats can't break through on Nov. 7 to win the Senate races in at least two of those three states — Missouri, Tennessee and Virginia — they are unlikely to control the chamber.

...snip...

The Times/Bloomberg polls found that among likely voters:

In Ohio, the Democratic challenger, Rep. Sherrod Brown, led Republican Sen. Mike DeWine, 47% to 39%.
In New Jersey, Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez held a 45%-41% edge over his GOP challenger, Tom Kean Jr.
In Virginia, Democrat Jim Webb led Republican Sen. George Allen, 47% to 44%.
In Missouri, Republican Sen. Jim Talent was ahead of Democrat Claire McCaskill, 48% to 45%.
In Tennessee, Republican Bob Corker — the former mayor of Chattanooga — led Democratic Rep. Harold E. Ford Jr., 49% to 44%, in the race for the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Bill Frist.

3. Corker leads Ford? Where?
Heck, I live in the most Republican part of the state and see way more Ford signs and stickers in real peoples' yards and on their cars than I see Corker signs. The only Corker signs I see are at the gas stations of the man who is is finance chair and on grassy knolls.

If my side of the state is showing this much support for Ford, I'm fairly sure the more liberal middle and western sides of the state are even MORE pro-Ford.

I'm not sure who they poll, but my unofficial polling of yard signs - which is probably as scientific as there's - tells me Ford is going to surprise them.

6. I can barely allow myself to believe that Webb is now ahead in that
Virginia Senate race.

May that trend line leap vertically off the page on election day.

Go, Jim Webb.

9. I know what you mean
I am so accustomed to seeing polls where Webb is 2 points behind that at first I didn't realize that it was Webb who was ahead in this poll.

I saw an ad yesterday (online) where very popular former governor Warner was endorsing Webb. I SO hope Webb defeats that jerk Allen.

10. Love what you said. I feel the same way about that Webb-Allen race,
and I hope Warner's endorsement can help seal the deal.

If I had more than 10 fingers, they'd be as crossed as the ones I have on that Virginia race.

I think if we win that one, the Senate is ours.

11. Heck, Webb has Jarding and Saunders advising him. . .
they're the guys who advised Mark Warner and helped carry him to victory.

They're the authors of "Foxes in the Henhouse", on how the Democrats can win back the South:
www.foxesinthehenhouse.com

Webb has a better-than-even chance of winning rural VA's votes with these 2 guys in his corner.

:kick:

12. Yep. In the rough and tumble of politics, you'd want the best
people you could find, and it sounds as if Webb's found 'em.

Let me turn on the tube Tuesday the 7th of November and see Virginia's Senate race a real deep blue on that map!
