Bush Bonuses Go To Already Well-Paid Teachers

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Some Ohio teachers are getting a total of $20 million from the federal government as part of a federal incentive program.

Ohio's grant will be distributed in four of the state's most academically challenged school districts -- where teachers already have higher-than-average salaries.

Education Secretary Margaret Spellings announced the first of 16 grants provided by the Bush administration's Teacher Incentive Fund Tuesday.

A teachers' union lobbyist said the timing of the program's grant distribution -- just weeks before November elections -- is suspicious. The program allows the Bush administration to hand out money in the closing weeks of the fall campaign to teachers who raise student test scores.

don't forget to take the survey...

the party in power always does this

it's wrong but it's still standard operating procedure in politics
