Gibbons' strategist regrets leaving candidate before incident (NV-R)
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Sig Rogich, a savvy political adviser who has counseled presidents, said he regrets not walking Rep. Jim Gibbons back to his hotel room on one fateful night two weeks ago.

Rogich had dinner with Gibbons, a gubernatorial candidate, and some supporters at McCormick & Schmick's in Las Vegas two Fridays ago. After dinner, they went into the bar to wait out a rainstorm. There, they were eventually joined by four women.

After a raucous night of drinking in an atmosphere that a restaurant employee told police was "flirty," Rogich walked the candidate to the door, and he said he saw him go toward his hotel, a few hundred feet away.

One of the women, 32-year-old Chrissy Mazzeo, had been sitting with Gibbons and Rogich and accused Gibbons of assaulting her in a parking garage. Gibbons said he was just walking her to her truck, and that she slipped, and he kept her from falling.

"I walked outside, Jim walked ahead of me. I went back in. I went to the bathroom, I paid the tab. I went back outside. Jim was gone. Chrissy was gone," Rogich said.

"Of course I wish I'd walked him to his room," he said.

6. Raucous night of drinking, "flirty" atmosphere? I was beginning to give
Gibbons the benefit of the doubt - that he might have been "set up" by someone - but this sounds more than a mite suspicious. Sounds as if the flirting might have gotten a little out of hand. There are so many holes in this story one hardly knows when to start.

Gibbons and Rogich went into a Las Vegas bar and began drinking to wait out a rainstorm after dinner?
Then they were "joined" by four women that they did not know and began drinking with them and flirting? What were we to do, these four pushy women joined us, made us buy drinks for them, and started flirting! :sarcasm:

Sorry but this does not strike me as altogether innocent behavior by a married man. It sounds more like classic tom catting behavior on the part of Gibbons to me. Maybe I am just cynical?

Then Gibbons apparently walks or follows one of the women to her car. Rogich says now he should have walked Gibbons to his room. No kidding. Why didn't he? The obvious, though cynical, answer seems to be that Rogich knew that Gibbons wanted to be alone with the woman. I am sorry but I don't buy this tale of Gibbons and Rogich. I also am not sure I buy the woman's story either, but at the least, Gibbons and Rogich exercised incredibly poor judgement and allowed themselves to be put into a compromising situation. That would be true if they were just two ordinary married guys on a night out. It is particularly true for a political candidate and his political advisor.

If I had to guess, I would say that Gibbons made a clumsy pass at the woman and got rebuffed.

7. So basically this old bastard needs a leash.

There is nothing that his little man servant could have done to keep this total asshole from following what apparently is his Achilles heal. drinking and assaulting women.

A total rhetorical question: are there any repubs that aren't pigs?
