Allen faces questions on Iraq war stance

By BOB LEWIS, Associated Press Writer 36 minutes ago

RICHMOND, Va. - Republican Sen. George Allen (news, bio, voting record) called for "changes in tactics" in how the U.S. is fighting the
Iraq war on Friday as he continued to face questions about his morphing position on the war.

"The situation there is one that needs adjustments, that needs changes in tactics. We need to adapt to the situation on the ground," Allen said at a campaign event Friday morning with GOP leaders of the state legislature.

Even so, Allen, whom polls show to be in a tight Senate race with Democratic candidate Jim Webb, has yet to reject or criticize the hard line on Iraq that he had touted for months and that
President Bush repeated Thursday at an Allen fundraiser.

Allen and Webb appeared separately later Friday in Hampton at a forum of the
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, where each signed up for lifetime membership.

1. Now that he's a lifetime member of NAACP,
what is Felix Macaca supposed to do with all those sheets and hoods and cornfed-o-rate flags? What do his new best friends think of the time he stuffed a deer head in a black family's mailbox or all those times he used the "N-word"? Got hypocrisy?

2. This is hysterical. The real gem here is hidden
within the story. George Allen, a new lifetime member of the NAACP! What will his KKK friends think? This truly reeks of desperation.

3. Republicans are now resorting
to imitating the Keystone Kops, as they scurry away from the ever more unpopular Bush, and desperately throw out whatever lines they think will win them votes. If it weren't for all of the death and destruction their blind obedience has allowed, seeing them now would almost be funny. It's tragic, though, because they have helped ruin many lives, and deserve no sympathy.

Well...on second thought...I wish them all of the sympathy and caring they lavished on the citizens of New Orleans, as they watched them die from drowning, hunger, and thirst. Thinking of my brother and sisters in that tragedy prevents me from having any concern for the party who abandoned them.

4. truth.
yes, this fake and convenient surge of sanity and compassion rings false. shame the voters will probably fall for it, again. changing minds is like herding cats.
