Clare Short resigns as Labour MP (former Blair Cabinet member)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6069710.stm

Clare Short has resigned as a Labour MP and will sit as an independent for the remainder of this parliament, her office has confirmed.

The Birmingham Ladywood MP has said earlier she will step down at the next election.

She has been a vocal critic of Tony Blair's foreign policy.

Chancellor Gordon Brown refused to comment but added: "It has been known for some time she wasn't voting with the Labour whip."

Earlier this month Ms Short was formally reprimanded by Labour for saying she will campaign for a hung parliament. -snip-

1. Quite sad that
She was the voice of common sense and reason. Doubt if Poodle is crying but he's probably embarrassed just the same.

2. Good for her! When will the rest of Labour screw its courage to the
wall and flush :hurts: that nastly little war criminal Blair?

3. Soon, I hope
And let's also hope that the successor proves to be significantly better (most likely it'll be Gordon Brown, but there are worse possibilities).

Glad about Clare Short rebelling - I wish more people would do so.

4. Better late than never.
Actually, I'd like to see, above and beyond a proportional voting system, all formal, whipped 'parties' outlawed - in favour of a parliament of truly individual, independent 'representatives of the people'.
