Lieberman endorses Bush appointee for U.N. post
NEW YORK - Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman on Monday endorsed controversial Bush appointee John Bolton for a permanent slot at the United Nations - putting him at odds once again with Democrats and his Senate colleague, Chris Dodd.

Dodd, D-Conn., is the leading critic of Bolton, the controversial envoy Bush sent to the U.N. on a temporary ambassadorship after Democrats and some key Republicans balked at nominating him.

"I see no reason not to be for Bolton," Lieberman told a meeting of the New York Daily News editorial board.

"Based on his capabilities - and now based on his performance - I believe Bolton is well-qualified," he said.

"I think he's been a good negotiator and a good spokesman. He deserves to have a vote. I think he deserves to be confirmed."

Bolton's recess appointment expires at the end of the year and he will need Senate approval to remain as U.N. ambassador.

Lieberman had not publicly taken a position on Bolton before.

14. Dubya looks blissfully unconcerned about world events there in
that photo.

And Holy Joe is soakin' up the karma in the background.

The polls show a win for Joe in this one. I hope the polls are wrong. I like Ned Lamont and I can't stand Lieberman's fluid loyalties to our party.

I'd like to see Democrats in Connecticut vote unanimously for Lamont as an instruction to Lieberman and anyone else that when you play footsie with the Bush administration, there is a consequence.

7. Disappointed but not surprised.
With his wholehearted embrace of Bushism, Joe has completely crossed over.
He may still claim to be Democrat but he's a stronger Bush loyalist
than some Republicans.

If Lieberman wins in November, expect him to toe the Bush party line.

9. 38% of Dems in CT are still supporting Lieberman - Are they Stupid?
Why in hell would Democrats still endorse a Republican backed candidate? The new I'm sticking with Joe signs have popped up all over the place - Mostly on the lawns of Republican party members.

12. If Democrats take the Senate, we should call for a outright vote on Bolton
So he can be rejected outright.

The reason for Lieberman's excessive (even by his standards) Bush butt kissing recently is that he relying on Connecticut Republicans to win, and he can't afford to alienate them by criticizing their Golden Boy.

30. Actually I am surprised.
Not that he supports Bolton, but that he announced it before the election. This was politically stupid. Lieberman cannot rely solely on hard core Republicans to get elected in CT. And this is a good way to lose Dems and Unaffiliateds.

He really, really doesn't know his constituents.

25. This is his payback to the Repubs for their support. He also figures
most people don't know much about Bolton's past and the endorsement won't hurt him in any way.
He has gotten pathetic. He is going to be a thorn in the Dem's side even more if he get elected. Another kook, like Zell Miller.
I hope the Dem's win big enough in the senate that his vote isn't necessary for Dem initatives to pass and we can strip him of his leadership posts rendering him inefective.

What a disapointment he has turned out to be. This was the man who could of been our VP and even wanted to be president.

You were wrong. There is no conceivable way you can defend this guy anymore.

We called this PNAC-enabling DLCer out looooooooooooooooooong ago. We were right about him, and we're right about the other DLCers. You, on the other hand, are out of touch and out of time.

It's time for the benchleys of the world to open their fucking eyes.

Sad to say there are probably plenty of democrats who are as eager to engage in complete war against Iran / Syria / Whoever as tthe Republicans are.

They are called Joepublicans.

There is no doubt who Joe supports. What is it called when you have pledged to uphold the Constitution of one country but your true allegiance is to another?
