D.C. group plans ads to slam (Sue) Kelly
Times Herald-Record
October 14, 2006

The Beltway bigs just cranked up the volume in the nasty advertising war between Rep. Sue Kelly, R-Katonah, and her Democratic opponent, John Hall.

Majority Action, a large D.C.-based Democratic advocacy group, has announced that it will spend up to $500,000 blitzing local airwaves with ads linking Kelly to some of America's least favorite things: big oil, drug companies and disgraced Republican Rep. Mark Foley.

The move dramatically escalates what's already on pace to become the most expensive race the 19th Congressional District has ever seen, with the two camps having collectively raised more than $2 million.

It also signals a growing confidence by national Democratic strategists that the district has become more competitive in the wake of Hall's primary win last month and the scandal unfolding over Foley's advances toward former teenage interns.

4. strongly disagree! . . .
people of all political persuasions are fed up to the teeth with this war and will support an anti-war candidate . . . the fact that he's an environmentalist in the era of global warming and is pushing for universal health insurance are also big pluses . . .

Sue Kelly doesn't have a deep base of support . . . most people don't even know who she is, other than their Republican representative in Congress . . . which is not an asset this year . . .

the other thing to consider is turnout . . . Democrats, Independents, and "Rockefeller Republicans" will be highly motivated to get out and vote for non-BushCo candidates of whatever party . . . the most dogmatic neocons will also be motivated, but they're few in number . . . many Republicans who used to support Bush and were sold the BushCo bill of goods will likely just stay home . . .

John Hall has an excellent chance of winning this year, imo . . . and he'll make a damned good Member of Congress . . .

2. John Hall won't win in 2006, but...
...if he finishes within ten points, he can get more financial support in 2008 (assuming he runs again.)

3. disagree
they wouldn't be dumping this kind of money in if it wasn't a winnable race.

5. Here's his website.
It also mentions Bonnie Raitt is doing a benefit for him October 18, in Tarrytown, N.Y.
