Sheehan holds Austin book signing & says that she's a Nobel Peace finalist
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 04:28 PM by El Supremo
The president's most vocal critic against the war in Iraq was in the Capitol City Wednesday night.

Cindy Sheehan was at BookPeople on Lamar & 6th Street signing autographs for her new book entitled "Peace Mom".

(snip)

Sheehan also announced at the signing that she's a finalist for a Nobel Peace Prize.

(Thanks Drudge. And BTW, John Bolton was nominated too. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5398780.stm )

7. Anyone can nominate anyone
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 06:50 PM by happyslug
All you have to do is send a letter to the Norwegian Parliament. Most nomination are dismissed but some get to be voted on. Cindy Sheehan appears to have made the cut, Bolton did not (I wonder if hi nominated went straight into the circular file?).

14. Probably has, but the committee that make the selection is careful.
While anyone can be nominated, the Committee is Selective as to WHOM is picked. Thus Mary Jane probally has been nominated (as has George Bush) but the Committee NEVER considered it a serious nominee.

5. Man, if the reich-wingers had a cow when Jimmy Carter won the Prize,
I can't wait to see all the exploding heads if Sheehan gets it.

I guess that's not a very peaceful sentiment. So sorry.

22. and the actual winner wasn't mentioned in that article
Which suggests that the article probably should be taken with a grain of salt.

11. There is no country on earth that more needs a boost to peacemakers
than this one, nor is there any other country that is more of a threat to world peace. We need this award HERE! We need HELP! We need the decent people of the world to voice their opinion and SUPPORT the efforts here to re-direct the United States back onto a peaceful, decent, law-abiding path.

I pray that the Nobel Peace Prize committee will recognize this!

Cindy Sheehan stood up, at great personal risk, when all other voices of peace were being marginalized and stifled here, and boldly asked the right question, WHY? Why did my son die? Why do these others have to die? What for? And she has never given up asking it, in every way she can. What a courageous woman she is!

Unless one of the committee members is leaking info, this claim of hers is a bit of an exaggeration;

20. I'd wager...
...that of all the people who claim to be Nobel nominees, those who have exaggerated vastly outnumber those who were given legitimate "leaked" info on their nomination.

15. What is a "finalist" in the Nobel Peace Prize?
They don't even release the nominees list for 50 years yet she knows she is a "finalist"? I think her delusions of grandeur are clouding her mind.
