Hastert Backs Out of Pa. Fundraiser
October 9, 2006

WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Dennis Hastert and another Republican leader criticized for his role in the congressional page scandal will not be appearing at fundraisers on behalf of a Pennsylvania congressman who has admitted to an extramarital affair.

Democrats have accused Hastert, R-Ill., and Rep. Tom Reynolds, R-N.Y., of doing too little to protect teenage male pages from Rep. Mark Foley. The Florida Republican resigned Sept. 29 after the disclosure of inappropriate electronic messages to a former congressional page.

Rep. Don Sherwood, R-Pa., had been considered to have a safe seat for re-election until a woman filed suit against him and alleged that he had choked her during an altercation at his Capitol Hill apartment. Sherwood admitted to having an affair with the woman but denied hurting her. They settled the case out of court.

Jake O'Donnell, a spokesman for Sherwood, said Monday that an Oct. 18 event with Hastert was only tentatively scheduled and was canceled mostly because Sherwood had another major event the next day.

Denny needs to buy a clue. It's time to step down when you've become a liability to your own party.

1. The woman beater doesn't want an endorsement from the pedophile enabler?
That's quite a party.

2. Holy Maroley
Look at the lead paragraph in this article: "House Speaker Dennis Hastert and another Republican leader criticized for his role in the congressional page scandal will not be appearing at fundraisers on behalf of a Pennsylvania congressman who has admitted to an extramarital affair."

So....what yer saying is that two pedophile enablers have canceled their plans to campaign
for an adulterer who allegedly physically assaulted his mistress by trying to wring her neck.

Riiiiiiiighhht.

When they said "Family Values" I didn't realize that they were talking about the Manson Family.

4. Another one of those moments
where you sit there blinking at the monitor in disbelief for a few seconds. It's a hell of a deal when Hastert might be the most ethical guy in the room.

8. Cynthia Ore revealed she was a Democrat. How could he avoid choking her?
It's not really Republican Congressman Don Sherwood's fault, after all. People should get off this good man's back! He DID apologize, after all, did he not?

Don and ex-sweetie, Cynthia Ore

And just where DID Mr. High and Mighty Hastert have to go, anyway? Is he saying he has never choked a mistress?

21. Nope - not at all
Wanna hear irony - Don Sherwood won that district with 92% of the vote in 2004 and he even had a Democratic opponent.

Now he's about 9pts behind Chris Carney and this seat is looking more like a democratic pickup.

15. I've also heard on our local radio stations
(yeah, Sherwood is 'my' reprehensible to congress)

bush is suppose to show up this month to stump for sherwood...

meanwhile, Condi Rice was suppose to speak at one of the colleges in my area this month - but it was canceled because of recent concerns with foreign policy issues... She has not rescheduled, although the invitation to speak remains open

26. I know how you must feel. I've got Hastert
sweating and drooling all over my district. Tommorow or Friday I'm going to go over to his local office and stand around outside with some kind of sign. I work nights, so my days are free.

19. the next to fall in the Foley Pagegate scandal
WMR reported on old charges that swirled around Hastert when he was a high school wrestling coach at Yorkville High School in Yorkville, Illinois. Hastert decided to enter politics in 1980 after rumors surfaced about inappropriate contact with male high school students.

23. Hasturd is nothing but a yes man
That is why he was placed in the position of House Speaker. They knew he would do as he was told. Now the idiot has been left hanging in the wind and he truly reflects the fool that he is. He doesn't even comprehend the meaning of "The buck stops here."

No party loyalty? I mean, a little extramarital affair is nothing in republicon circles...just ask Newt Gingrich...
