Cannon: Teens "egging on" Foley in online sex scandal

<snip>

"These kids are actually precocious kids," Cannon, R-Utah, told KSL Radio's Nightside. "It looks like uh, maybe this one email is a prank where you had a bunch of kids sitting egging this guy on."

...

"Frankly, this is the responsibility of the parents," Cannon said. "If you get online you may find people who are creepy. There are creepy people out there who will do and say creepy things. Avoid them. That's what you have to do. And maybe we can say that a little more to the pages."

Democrats reacted to the comments with disgust.
"It's outrageous and irresponsible," said Christian Burridge, a Democrat challenging Cannon in the 3rd Congressional District. "You have a district here with the most children in the United States in a congressional district and we've got a congressman blaming an absolutely irresponsibly outrageous conduct that needs to be investigated on the victims. That sends a horrible message to the victims of sex crimes."

Cannon's remark about kids "egging on" Foley refers to an unsubstantiated report by the online Drudge Report that said an initial email cited in the scandal was a "prank." No other news media has confirmed that report, and since then three other pages have come forward to say they received lurid messages from Foley.

someone needs (who knows who the parents are of some of the pages, esp. the 1st known ones) to send his message to them and see if they love their beloved repuke party NOW that they're so gladly throwing the families into the "at fault" group!

so the point being by this guy is, "we can rape, coerce and seduce your kids all we want unless you are responsible and tell them to not even speak to us" SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From a wikipedia article on the race:

Cannon will face Democrat Christian Burridge,<1> a consumer rights attorney and graduate of Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School, in November, as well as Jim Noorlander (Constitution party) <2> and Phil Hallman (Libertarian party). A recent poll conducted for the Deseret Morning News and KSL TV had Cannon leading Burridge 53% to 26%. Noorlander pulled 4% while Hallman brought in 3%.

Why is it that whenever these fuckers get caught red-handed, it's always SOMEONE ELSE'S FAULT/OVERSIGHT/LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY? Or whatever other excuse they can think of to avoid accepting due blame? I got my belly full of this stuff at the height of the Catholic Church scandal when higher-ups actually blamed the parents of the victims for having trust in the priests with whom they left their kids. This is the same "justification" at work here.

Never anyone's fault but the victim's. Nope, never.

26. Rep. Chris Cannon Dismisses Foley Scandal (Blames Pages)
http://www.newwest.net/index.php/topic/article/rep_chris_cannon_dismisses_foley_scandal/C71/L37/

Ex-Florida Representative Mark Foley is under investigation for allegedly having lascivious conversations with minors through email and instant messages. The minors involved were part of the Congressional Page Program.

At a fund-raiser for School Choice Millard asked Rep. Cannon what he thought of the scandal. "There’s not much we can do except educate kids to the dangers. Frankly, this is the responsibility of the parents – If you get online you may find creepy people who will do and say creepy things – avoid them," Cannon said. ...

If these comments weren’t enough Cannon went on to say that the pages were "precocious kids" who "egged {Congressman Foley} on."

"It looks like this one email was a prank - a bunch of kids sitting around, egging this guy on," Cannon continued. "The world is a complicated place."

If Cannon had a 16-year old son or daughter who was a Congressional page and that child had gotten some message from a US Congressperson about coming over and having oral sex, is Cannon going to say that he as a parent should have done more to stop that conduct? That it was his fault and his child's fault? GMAFB...

Those little campus Republicans are. Seriously, have you ever seen a College Republican who looked like anything but a repressed gay guy trying to act macho? No, you haven't. Most of my gay friends act a LOT straighter than these queens-in-mufti. Cannon may have a point here. That doesn't excuse Foley trying to get in their pants, though, or sending them porn. Somehow, though, I think some of these pages are going to grow up to be little Roy Cohns: I'm not gay, I just like to fuck boys, in his illustrious words.

They had better release every one of the Pervs that Dateline NBC has lured with their "To Catch a Preditor" segments. You can not expect these people to be responsible for their actions when they are being baited by children.

The local ABC affiliate is owned by Clear Channel, NBC's by the Mormons, so I'm guessing no. Not that any coverage would make much difference in the election, UT-3 is one of the reddest districts in the country, but it's always nice to see Cannon exposed as the utter incompetent that he is. The man is nothing but a voting placeholder for the Republican party line. He cant even funnel a little pork into the district. And why should he, his "calling and election are made sure" there's no reason to even appear efficacious. On those rare occasions whey he's not blindly following the dictates of the Republican leadership, he's taking orders from his lobbyist and elder brother, Joe Cannon. The Cannon brothers, a pair of grifters Utah will never be free of and deservedly so. Why does Utah elect such terrible politicians? Because no one else would.

I'll never forget when Wilson was governor of California. He had this thing he called "Smoke a joint- lose your license". You get caught smoking a joint and you lose your life, basically. So we've got Limbaugh walking around like the big fat drug addict he is. And then now we have Foley.

What I'm getting at is the republicans have destroyed our ability to vote. They own the judicial system. They own the airwaves. They have destroyed the country by dragging us into illegal wars.

What do we do? It really appears hopeless.

It's like there are no adults in America. It's like all of those McMansions are empty of people.

i said Foley was a 52 year old man and that congress.. not the parents.. were responsible for the care of these children while in DC..and that Cannon ought to go stick his head back up his ass.. as far as he can..because he certainly has no clue about children! or responsiblity as an adult! and i said i would be sending money to anyone who runs against him!

65. Americans don't feel pity for the predators on Dateline NBC every Friday
And neither will they for Hastert.

Think about it, on Dateline the predators are egged on and lured into a trap, where they are then made to squirm on camera and then thrown on the ground and cuffed for Americas viewing pleasure. I'd like to point out how successful that program is and suggest that Americans are not about to buy into this pathetic attempt to blame the victims. When it comes to the internet, sex and anyone under the age of 18 being stalked by an older man in his 50s, they've already made up their minds.

while the intern who was a legal adult was totally victimized.

Stop the spin, guys...You're making yourselves dizzy!

71. Well said, if it happens to a Republican, it was a plot....
Foleygate was a plot that the Dems hatched to trap Foley. A huge conspiracy where the Dems enlisted the aid of lots of under aged boys over a period of years.

Now the Monica deal, no way could that have ever been a plot by the Republicans, who had been out to get the guy since before 1992, and would have only needed to enlist one tramp. Well, two, I forgot about the failed attempt with Paula Jones.

74. what a lame, convoluted excuse
First of all this is a lie.

If, for some odd reason, a grown up man, an officeholder in congress, is stupid enough to be 'egged on' by kids, and be drawn into games, then he's dumber than a bag of rocks and should be sent out to pasture.
