Ten Commandments Judge to Appeal Loss of Job
Ten Commandments Judge to Appeal Loss of Job
Thu December 4, 2003 11:57 AM ET

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Alabama's former chief justice said on Thursday he would ask the state's highest court to overturn a decision to strip him of his job for refusing a federal order to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments from a courthouse.

Roy Moore, a fundamentalist Christian whose defiance last summer stirred a national debate over the role of religion in public life, said he would file his appeal in Alabama's Supreme Court by Dec. 10. He had not previously said publicly whether he would challenge his removal.

Moore made the announcement in a news release issued by the Christian Coalition of Alabama, a group that strongly backed him throughout the confrontation over the monument.

Moore was stripped of his office by the Alabama Court of Judiciary on Nov. 13, less than two months after he was suspended for defying a U.S. District Court order to remove the 5,000-pound (2.3-tonne) Ten Commandments display from the state judiciary building in Montgomery.

1. predictably contentious
the dude doesn't respect the law he was sworn to serve, so why would he act any differently regarding repercussions of flouting that law.

2. Ha, ha, ha!
Go ahead, beg for your job back, you fundamentalist lawbreaker! Beg the same people who fired you in the first place. The groveling makes me feel all warm and cozy inside.

Or maybe he should appoint him to head the new Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

5. what an asswipe
He's already a fundie preacher - he oughta go on the road and fleece the faithful - he's certainly better suited to doing that than he is obeying and enforcing the law.

If this guy really was a Christian - would he be so obnoxious and self aggrandizing? I don't think so. If Jesus came back, his followers would kill him.

Maybe he's doing this as a form of exploration for interest in a campaign for office.

OR he has the inside track on what the finding will be :scared:

On edit for purposes of free association tin foiling- Suppose SCOTUS will buy him off so he *doesn't* run as some third party nominee?
